This case shows everything that's wrong with this country. I can't believe the outcome here.

Didn't the tobacco companies settle a multi-billion dollar lawsuit several years ago? I thought that was supposed to handle their obligations. Apparently not, but this is not surprising that people still put the blame on someone else for the choices they themselves make. This will be challenged I think, and only the attorneys will win.

Its one thing if its someone thats around 60 but this guy was 36. You'd have to be borderline retarded to not know that smoking is addictive and bad for you health.

My guess it that the tobacco industry wins in a appeal, at least significantly lowers the settlement.

    Wait and see.

Nope.. Won't happen. I do see it reducing drastically, and there being a shift from cigarettes to e-cigs. But people love to have their vices, even though it helps shorten heir lives. What I would like to see is the tobacco companies forced to show what chemicals they use to process the tobacco, and possibly put in regulation on that side. Many of those processes are designed to free up the nicotine from the tobacco leaves, so there is a bigger effect, and it's more addictive. If you regulate it so that those processes can't be done, you will have more people who would be able to quit. That won't happen soon, if ever. The tobacco lobby is too powerful.

What do you mean by the outcome? These suits are typically greatly reduced or even eliminated. What do you mean?
Trump Attacked A Syrian Airfield. Trump will be a one-term president.

Re: $23 Billion Lawsuit Settlement for One Smoking Death

    Let's see...this guy died at 36.

Let's say he started smoking when he was 16 so that equals 20 years times 365 days which equals 7300 days times (say) 25 cigarettes a day equals 182,500 cigarettes.

$23 billion divided by 182,500 cigarettes means the tobacco company will (in theory) pay him $126,027 per cigarette.

Hmmm...papa could use a new 'vette Stingray and a blowout trip to Vegas (assuming they still have water there).

I figure smoking 3/4 of a cigarette ought to do it.

    Oops...forgot legal fees.

So I will smoke one cigarette, sue the tobacco company and once the court case is settled I will pick up my new 'vette in Vegas during my trip.

Who says smoking isn't still cool?
