Secret Service: Pittsford man Benjamin Smith arrested after threatening President Bush over daughter

Both of these came after Bush's presidency ended.

This one didn't:
Pacoima man held in alleged threat on Bush - Los Angeles Times

Wiki has several other instances that were investigated, but no arrests were made. An arrest is usually not made without an overt, at least semi-credible threat.

Sure, I've already said that she should be investigated. I am just skeptical that it will amount to anything other than a dumbass running off her mouth because she is upset with Obama.

I highly doubt it will amout to the witch hunt and IRS tax audit of every gun owner OP prays for.

Exactly what I've been saying. She will be investigated but probably not arrested. I think she is just a stupid woman who was making stupid comments. I don't see this as a credible or a serious threat to the president's life.

there are supreme court cases on this stuff already people...
hell..... wanting ,wishing, or hoping someone else would kill the President is not punishable under federal statute (United States v. Daulong)... it is, in practical terms, protected speech.


those whom want this woman killed, jailed, or somehow punished... are wrong.....
she has not broken any laws... nothing she has said is indictable under federal statute.

I agree, UNLESS they find something else that does indicate that she is a threat. There have actually been other dumbasses who posted their plans online. However, I really doubt this is a serious threat.

I've not been all that enamored with either of them, but I still think it's not OK to assassinate the President.

I never said that they should look the other way. I only said that I don't think this is a serious threat to the president's life, but rather some dumbasses taking out their frustrations on the internet and that it was unfair to apply this one person's comments to the entire group (however many there in this group, I don't even know). I haven't read anything about this group being a hate group against Obama or anything, just this one stupid woman making stupid comments.

Because that is what it seems like you are trying to do. It's as if you discovered these comments made by a gun owner who happens to be a member of a group that wants to preserve 2nd amendment rights, and you were like ah-ha!! :mrgreen:

She probably thought she was being clever. Thing is, we are in an internet age where people no longer think before they "tweet"... or post... or try to look good to their fellow ideologues (of any lean or speciality). Saying that she'd like the president assassinated is just not something to toss out on Facebook before firing up the BBQ. There will be repercussions, the least of which will be an unpleasant interview with the Secret Service.

The SS will probably decide she's just a big-mouthed crackpot trying to show off her ODS coolness to her internet buddies, and let her off with a warning. However, they could go much, much further than that if they wished. No matter what happens, it's nobody's fault but her own... and yeah, I'd say the same thing no matter who was in the White House.

Wishing the president to be assassinated is one of those things that anyone with an IQ higher than that of a boiled turnip knows not to publicize on social media. It's right up there with chortling "I've got a bomb!" at the airport, and "gimme all your money" at the local bank. A "ha-ha, just kidding" afterward doesn't hack it. You're going down.

Probably for the same reason that a non-story like the President bowing to a foreign dignitary (as was custom in that country) got so many comments. Each time the ideologues on one side of an issue decided to over react and try to score points. Just made them look silly is what it did.

The left likes to co-opt the English language and bastardize it. You know, "progressive", "democratic". President Obama is a Democrat - he's the leader of the Democrats. Just as Bush is a Republican and the leader of the Republicans. The right doesn't try to change that into Republic President so why should they allow the left to change theirs into Democratic President.

Too bad if you don't like it - makes perfect sense to anyone who doesn't abuse language.

You didn't hear that from me. I think any threat, credible or not, should be investigated by those who are charged with protecting your President. I've been embarrassed for your country with the number of times the Secret Services has been caught "behaving badly" while protecting President Obama or preparing for one of his trips abroad - it would take very little inattention to give opportunity for harm. Considering American history, no threat should ever be considered trivial or innocent.
