The US Department of Justice announced Thursday that it would not investigate charges that the CIA had spied on members of the staff of the Senate Intelligence Committee, whitewashing the brazenly illegal actions of the US intelligence apparatus. “The department carefully reviewed the matters referred to us and did not find sufficient evidence to warrant a criminal investigation,” read the Justice Department statement.

The department will also not investigate countercharges by the CIA that Senate staffers had gained unauthorized access to CIA documents, effectively equating the two and prompting the corporate-controlled media (which has largely buried the story) to portray the action as a neutral, “hands-off” position in a murky dispute between the Senate and the CIA.

The CIA surveillance of the activities of the Senate committee—which is charged by law with oversight of the CIA—was such a flagrant violation of the constitutional separation of powers that the panel’s chairman, Senator Dianne Feinstein of California, took the extraordinary step of denouncing the agency in an hour-long speech on the Senate floor on March 11.

A longtime hardline defender of the intelligence apparatus, Feinstein was visibly disturbed by what she had learned of the CIA’s actions, which she said “may well have violated the separation-of-powers principle embodied in the United States Constitution,” and also “the Fourth Amendment, the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, as well as Executive Order 12333, which prohibits the CIA from conducting domestic searches or surveillance.”

It is kind of nice to see DiFi get some of obummers medicine.

Maybe Darrell Issa can start an investigation and get nowhere, then double his campaign contributions.

Kind of hard to " get some where " when all you have to work with are double digit 5th amendment pleas and the illegal destruction of evidence.

Oh, and Lies, lots of lies

Yes, yes, we know. When people use their constitutional rights, complain. When the evidence isn't there, complain. Never figure out a way to actually prove anything. Just complain and complain some more while the campaign contributions double. :)

Of course they dropped the investigation! Obama might end up in prison if they didnt.

I have no problem with her using her Constitutional Right to not INCRIMINATE herself.

What CAN BE PROVEN is that 24 consecutive 5th amendment pleas plus lies plus the destruction of evidence is a TERRIBLE strategy for dealing with a " Politically motivated witch hunt "

Don't you agree ??

The way you shut down a scam investigation is with full disclosure. All the Democrats and people like YOU have done is to Perpetuate and lend credibility to this so called " Politically motivated witch hunt "

Are you so influenced by your ideology that you don't see the contradiction here ?? It's supposedly a baseless partisan attack that the Democrats refuse to refute with answers.

Must have been nothing to see there:doh

It's good that you realize that taking the 5th is not as big a deal as you make it out to be.

No. Pleading the 5th can be used to give a middle finger to scum like Issa who'd investigate their coffee if the taste wasn't the same everyday. Refusal to answer is not an admission of guilt. Get over it.

Dianne Fienstein is the Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence
Mike Rogers is the Chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence

Darrel Issa could call for an investigation, but it would probably come from the pertinent committee first.

we'll see if she was "deeply disturbed" enough to initiate an investigation ... her job is to chair the committee tasked with oversight of the CIA

Darrell Issa is the chairman of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. He doesn't need to be a member of any other committee because he is already a member of every single sub committee (ex officio) and the wide reach his committee has. The Oversight & Government reform committee has investigated everything from Schiavo's life support, to Bill Clinton, to steroids, to the WWE but not 9/11, FEMA's failure in Katrina, Abu Ghraib or Jack Abramoff. It's an office used by Republicans to start bull**** investigations that lead absolutely nowhere.

I'm glad to see that someone isn't turning a blind eye to the government doing dirt.

well then , if it's a committee to "start bull**** investigation that lead to nowhere"... why would you want him to investigate... why wouldn't you want Dianne to investigate the CIA, an entity her committee is charged with oversight on?

Obama supporter don't make much sense.

It's good that you realize that taking the 5th is not as big a deal as you make it out to be.

I never made it out to be a " Big deal", just a really dumb way to counter a " Politically motivated witch hunt "

No. Pleading the 5th can be used to give a middle finger to scum like Issa who'd investigate their coffee if the taste wasn't the same everyday. Refusal to answer is not an admission of guilt. Get over it.

Issa's " Scum ?? Lol....here's ANOTHER really ineffective way to counter a " Politically motivated witch hunt ".

Personal, irrelevant and childish attacks the guy who's running the investigation, and I don't have to " get over it "

Because there's a FANTASTIC organization called Judicial Watch who just got a Federal Judge involved in the IRS's ADMITTED targeting of Conservative Groups.

IRS must take oath on Lerner emails: judge - Mackenzie Weinger - POLITICO.com

"A federal judge on Thursday ordered the IRS to explain under oath how it lost emails connected to Lois Lerner, the former IRS official at the center of the tea party targeting scandal.

The action is the latest in conservative group Judicial Watch’s bid to discover more on the missing emails after the group won a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit against the IRS.
"

Lol....So NOW, the REAL SCUM involved in this Scandal gets to decide if it's a good idea to perjure themselves in front of someone who can finally do something about it.

Here's what's going to happen. Eventually there will be enough evidence to prove there was illegal targeting based on Politically ideology by the IRS and other Federal agencies and that Lois Lerner was in fact in touch with the White House.

So much evidence that not even people like YOU will be able to take up for the White House.

When that happens, people like you, instead of conceding that we were right all along, will ADMIT openly that Conservative Americans or anyone who disagrees with their twisted world view SHOULD be targeted illegally.

I never made it out to be a " Big deal", just a really dumb way to counter a " Politically motivated witch hunt "

Of course you did considering you've spent the better part of your last 2 posts trying to make it seem as a problem that someone uses their constitutional rights to defend themselves.

Issa's " Scum ?? Lol....here's ANOTHER really ineffective way to counter a " Politically motivated witch hunt ".

He's scum because he's shown himself to not be even remotely interested in the results of his investigations as long as the campaign contributions keep rolling.

well then , if it's a committee to "start bull**** investigation that lead to nowhere"... why would you want him to investigate.

Because with every investigation, he gets absolutely nowhere. He's an useful idiot who doesn't accomplish much.

I'm glad to see that someone isn't turning a blind eye to the government doing dirt.

Lmao, doing dirt. Prove it. Wait... that's Issa's job and he's failed. How is the ACORN investigation going btw?

So, the Katrina response went off without a hitch? That's not what you said last week.

There is apparent dirt at the IRS. Why else would everbody be clammin' up and lawyer'n up? Lerner's lawyer has already been caught in one lie.

Eh? What? What does Katrina have to do with Issa? Are you attempting to troll now? Or do you have such little defense of Issa's investigations that you're now resorting to the Bush years? ;)

People lawyer up for the same reason they plead the 5th. They won't wait to be railroaded by bull**** investigations.

so instead of uncovering what the CIA is up to, you would rather such an investigation " go nowhere"...

why on earth would you want that?

You're the one that brought up Katrina.

Lerner lawyered up because she broke the law and she knows she's got one in the jail house and the other foot on a banana peal.

His investigation go nowhere? Eh his investigations go nowhere because they have no traction to begin with. Think about it.

1. Issa started with ACORN. Got nowhere.
2. Then went into F&F and got... where.
3. Then he moved on to Benghazi, and found that as the attacks were going on the WH was calling up YouTube to have the video taken down.
4. Then he backtracked on what he had meant by stand down order.
5. So he moved on to the IRS and... all he got was a giant middle finger then complained because people weren't cooperating with him after he started his 3rd phishing expedition.
6. So now he's into the CIA/Senate "scandal" - and he just basically got told to come up with grounds for an investigation other than "big big meanies!"

How long until he starts his next investigation that'll go nowhere because all he's doing is going "I don't like this bad ju-ju!"

You're the one that brought up Katrina.

Eh - I didn't. I mentioned it as an example of the Oversight Committee being nothing more than a Republican bulldog without teeth. They investigated steroid use by Barry Bonds and Terry Schiavo's case but refused to do anything about issues during Republican administration. Why? Guess who runs the committee. Reading comprehension is your friend.

Lerner lawyered up because she broke the law and she knows she's got one in the jail house and the other foot on a banana peal.

Lmao, people now lawyer because they break laws and not to protect themselves from accusations. Yes, we know apdst - when people lawyer up it's cause they're guilty.

why on earth would you want that?

Because the Leftists don't want Obama to look worse than he already does.
