Obama: No interest in border 'photo op'

MLK did **** around with a lot of women when His wife wasn't around.

Cesar Chavez was xenophobic, he hated illegal aliens, especially illegal aliens from Mexico. He also said the worst time in his life was when he served in the U.S. Navy. I think he hated the Navy as much as illegal aliens.

Now there are some old sea stories from Hwy 99 in California about Cesar Chavez that would question him being a man.
Gossipy unfounded slander. Whats your source? National Enquirer?

If I was President Obama, I'd tell Texas to go pound sand up their ass. And I'm a native Texan! LOL!

That's a great idea! Why don't you write the President and share this this productive, bound-to-be-successful suggestion?

The point of our system is to have one branch pass something the other branch can live with, in substantial form. If the house can't come up with something the senate can't pass, the house bears substantial blame.

While Rick Perry is doing photo ops imitating a sulking 6 year old, he's also ignoring several initiatives that are underway, so let's get some facts into this thread, specifically as follows:

Democrats in congress want increased funding and resources for the Pentagon's Southern Command and the State Department’s Central American Regional Security Initiative.

For fiscal 2015, the Obama administration requested $130 million for regional security, which covers seven countries. Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson has said an additional $161.5 million will be provided for CARSI programs to “respond to the region’s most pressing security and governance challenges.”

President Obama’s request for foreign assistance to Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador totals more than $280 million in fiscal 2015.

After Vice President Joe Biden met in Guatemala last month with leaders from that country, Mexico, El Salvador and Honduras to address the wave of children crossing the U.S.-Mexico border, he announced $9.6 million in new assistance to Central American governments for repatriation of their citizens, improving security and preventing crime, as well as a series of USAID programs. Under USAID, $40 million dollars will go to Guatemala and $25 million to El Salvador. Under CARSI, an additional $18.5 million will go to Honduras.

After 9/11, Bush pushed immigration agents to take on more of a national security role, eventually folding them into the Department of Homeland Security in 2003. Spending on federal immigration enforcement spiked by 300 percent between fiscal 2002 and 2013, according to the Migration Policy Institute, and has now reached roughly $17 billion per year.

The Obama administration has conducted more deportations in 6 years than the President George W. Bush administration did in 8, and has effectively transformed the U.S.-Mexico border. CBP has conducted over 700 missions as part of its drone program.

Additionally, National Guard troops deployed to the border in 2010 to assist with monitoring continue to operate in that capacity.

Top General Says Mexico Border Security Now

From what I heard, Harry Reid has already got the word from Obama, make sure the House bill doesn't pass in the Senate if it has any amendments of repealing the 2008 law or securing the border or deporting any illegal aliens.
Color me surprised.

From your link!

White House spokesman Josh Earnest said Perry has accepted an invitation to a group meeting in Dallas that will include local officials and faith leaders.

"We thought it made sense here to extend an invitation to Gov. Perry, to allow him to participate in that meeting with other Texans who are seeking to address this situation in a constructive manner," Earnest said. "We're looking forward to Gov. Perry participating in that meeting."

Seems reasonable enough to me. The WH says the Texas trip had a triple purpose, including fundraising. Jesus Christ, unfortunately ALL presidents do fundraising, some presidents cut brush when we think they should be officiating, some play golf, some go fishing while others shoot pool.

And yet democrats keep criticizing money in politics.

They are responsible however for supplying the low-paying jobs for those who immigrate illegally.
Without those available jobs from big business, there would be no illegal immigration problem.
Try the illegals employed by Southern farmers .

Business provides opportunity to illegals and legals. I think it's generally agreed that businesses that knowingly hire illegals should suffer fairly severe consequences. The problem starts at the insecure southern border, however, and not with business.

And when the House passes something and the Senate refuses to let it even be discussed on the Senate floor due to nothing but partisan politics, the Senate bears substantial blame. As well, if the President cannot seem to negotiate, lead and compromise with the Congress to get things passed and instead consistently vilifies one side, then is incredulous about how Republicans won't work with him, he bears substantial blame.

The issue is, our system works when people are willing to work together. No one part of the three parts of government can unilaterally introduce or make changes to laws in this country without the cooperation with the others, and when they attempt to do so, they all deserve blame. Blame is not the problem.

Sorry, but that is the way it suppose to work and has worked for most of our history. If the house can't get a bill passed that they can get through the Senate, they are incompetent. The reality, of course, is that they are. They are not doing their jobs. This congress has passed the fewest items of legislation in its history; even fewer than the 112th, which most of these guys were members, the previous record holder.

Being in the minority gives you license to influence outcome; it does not give you license to gum up the system. The Congress has done nothing but play politics. Now that it is time to do something, they do not know how. As a body, they are incompetent. You sir, seem to be an apologist for it; perfectly content with the result.

It works both ways. The houses need to respect the politics of each other and pass bills in substantial form that can work through the other side. Why, for example, has the house not taken up the immigration bill, which could pass both houses and be signed into law?

Blame is with the electorate that has elected extreme members into the body and the electorates tolerance for them working with one another. The so-called news channels that crank out party rhetoric 24/7 in an attempt to fan the flames of their audience (and dumb them down) is also a part of this machine that has allowed all of this to happen. As a nation, we need to find more reasonable leadership (in all branches of government)... as our current trend, if left unchecked, will lead to the demise of our system of government.... but, that is another matter.

YOUR link does not support that. Stop reading the commentary, and read the link you provided.

The first story chronologically shows the itinerary (last link) before Obama went to Texas that had no plans for a meeting with Perry. The second post chronologically shows Perry rejecting the only offer for a meeting that Obama had for Perry which was a meet and greet on the tarmac at the airport. Perry suggested that they sit down for a real meeting. The last article shows Obama agreeing to the meeting that Perry suggested. This is exactly what I said.

Sure, but lets face it - the House isn't going to pass anything right now unless it burnishes their re-election campaign. They continually pass bills that won't ever pass in the Senate, and they know it. And what happens when they even think about compromise - they lose primaries to TPers (ask Eric Cantor).

Republicans aren't going to work with Obama because doing so loses them their job. And Democrats don't want to help them ram through the TPs agenda (surprise!).

You can thank gerrymandering for the dysfunction that is Congress.

The meeting was a compromise. Perry first wanted a photo-op at the border. Both sides rejected the other's photo-op. So nobody got the photo they wanted, and now we see the right complaining that their photo-op was rejected.

How about Bohner's house passing anything? ...ANYTHING!

you might want to do a little reading

Out of the 195 House-passed bills that are now stalled in the Senate, 31 were written by Democrats, and many have been awaiting Senate approval for close to a year.

Most of these Democratic bills are non-controversial. But House Democrats are stressing the importance of passing them.

GOP House leaders and Senate Democrats have engaged in a back-and-forth blame game on the gridlock in Washington.

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) has set up a website showcasing all bills “stuck in the Senate." President Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), meanwhile, have criticized the House for not acting on immigration reform, which passed the Senate last year.

But the fact that House Democratic bills are sitting in the Senate gives GOP leaders political ammunition.

“Democratic bills, Republican bills, bipartisan bills — the House has moved scores of legislation to help hard-working families and build an America that works,” Cantor Deputy Chief of Staff Doug Heye said. “Harry Reid's do-nothing Senate must not have gotten the memo that President Obama declared 2014 a year of action.”

Reid's office did not respond to requests for comment.

Only half of the stalled Democratic bills have a companion measure in the Senate. All but one are being sponsored by Democratic senators. The exception is Rep. George Miller’s (D-Calif.) Protecting Students from Sexual and Violent Predator’s Act, which has a companion bill crafted by Sen. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.).

Three of the stalled Democratic bills deal with veterans and the military.

Rep. Chellie Pingree (D-Maine) has two House-passed bills awaiting action in the Senate. The Ruth Moore Act aims to improve the disability claims process for veterans with mental health problems due to sexual trauma experienced in the military.

House Dems to Senate: Pass our bills | TheHill

dont blame just the house

partisan politics are everywhere

and no one plays the game better than the president and his buddy Harry Reid

Well he needs to start getting this very large community called the USA organized.

Obama was also an incompetent community organizer. The only accomplishment Obama achieved as a community organizer on the South Side of Chicago was registering blacks as Democrats by promising free stuff.

Then I fail to see the problem. Do you really think this is the first time a president has altered his itinerary due to external pressure of one sort or another. Incidentally, given Perry's attitude (as written all over his smug ass face in the photo that your ridiculing) and things that he has said about this president and others (having admitted to stepping in it on several occasions) it wouldn't have bothered me if Obama didn't meet with him at all, and left him out of the loop on the game plan for dealing with the problem.
