C'mon, Monty. Five posts in and you bring up Bush. Bush had his problems, and yes, we could use some good leadership, but decrying the past does nothing to fix the current situation. The past can't be changed. There is also the difference between a natural disaster which can't be prevented and the border situation, which can be prevented.

Of course, that's the partisans way. Works both ways too.

I agree humbolt! But our border has been unsecured for DECADES! Btw, do you realize that big business isn't interested in secure borders and that both parties pander to big business.

I am no fan of Obama but in this case he is right. As someone who has worked disaster areas of varying types I can attest that when high level VIPs come by it only slows the workers down and makes it difficult for them to do their jobs. And when the VIP is the POTUS it is a couple orders of magnitude worse.

Re: Obama: No interest in border 'photo op'

A couple of things stood out as pure Obama yesterday in his statement in Dallas.

    - He said Congress needs to learn to co-operate again like the old days by passing his legislation that he sent them. He didn't say work with him to make a mutually acceptable piece of legislation ... just passing what he sends them is being co-operative[/LIST].

    - When he said what the 3 billion would be used for he said half would be used for increased border control and immigrant processing (I think it was) and the other half would be used for something or other. So what he did was lump border control funding with immigrant processing funding as half, while border control would actually only be around 5% to 10%.
    Pure Obama wordplay.

Why do you think some of us have been screaming for DECADES? I could engineer the security of the southern border within a month. It wouldn't be pretty. Most of us have been hoping for something somewhat better.

So, if other presidents did little to nothing. He is OK doing nothing. No matter that NOW the border is being breeched by the thousands. Good god.

Big business isn't responsible for securing our borders.

We agree again. If you acknowledge the border problem is systemic, a decades old problem and aren't finger pointing at Obama, you're interested in solutions not partisan politics!
