Ah....now we can see why Khattala was finally captured and now taken off the Libyan range. Its clear he may be an influence to people in Benghazi. But then it is also clear that the former CIA General wants him out of the way. What say ye?

A strange silence has met the U.S. capture of a Libyan militant accused in the 2012 attack that killed the American ambassador and three others. In his hometown of Benghazi in eastern Libya, there have been few threats of revenge, only speculation among supporters and opponents that Ahmed Abu Khattala was betrayed by an insider. Abu Khattala had said for months he had no fear of the Americans snatching him, living at his home and saying he worked as a construction contractor. Before U.S. commandos snatched him from Benghazi a week ago, he had been battling alongside the militant group Ansar al-Shariah against the troops of Khalifa Hifter, a renegade Libyan general who has waged an offensive aimed at crushing Islamic militants around Libya, Abu Khattala's brother Abu Bakr told The Associated Press.

Abu Khattala was a prominent figure in the eastern city of Benghazi's thriving circles of extremists, popular among young radicals for being among the most hard-core and uncompromising of those calling for Libya to be ruled by Islamic Shariah law. But he was always something of a lone figure. Even after he joined Ansar al-Shariah — the group accused by the United States of carrying out the Sept. 11, 2012, attack on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi— he didn't take a leadership position or a post in its decision-making bodies, noted Fadlallah Haroun, a former rebel commander in Benghazi who met Abu Khattala in prison in the 1990s.

"He was always an outsider," Haroun, who opposes the Islamists and whose brother is a top intelligence official, told the AP. "He was a very simple man, who was honest in his talk and independent.....snip~

This has more to do with whats been going on in Libya recently.....even here it says he lived openly. Outsider, yet supporter. Oh and this piece forgot that the FBI released the Photos. Here it mentions the other two I had shown people, before this came up.

Mohammed Hegazi, a spokesman for Hifter's forces, described Abu Khattala as a "spiritual leader" of the extremist religious groups and militias in Benghazi. He accused him of orchestrating the looting of banks in the central city of Sirte, without offering evidence. But Abu Khattala was not the group's top leader — that was its founder, Mohammed al-Zawahi. While he was close to its leadership, he didn't join any of its decision-making bodies, Haroun said.

Abu Khattala's brother Abu Bakr said that in past months, he would disappear from his home in Benghazi for several days at a time because of the fighting with Hifter's forces. Their father last spoke with Abu Khattala on the morning of June 16, he said — and after that his phone went dead.....snip~

Abu Khattala is among a number of suspects named in a sealed indictment at the U.S. District Court in Washington for alleged involvement in the attack. The identities of the others in the indictment have not been revealed. Earlier this year, the Obama administration accused two branches of Ansar al-Shariah in the attack — the Benghazi branch and another based in the northern city of Darna — and listed them as terrorist groups. The Darna branch is led by Sufian bin Qumu, a former detainee at the U.S. military prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, who was identified by American officials at the time as a probable member of al-Qaida. He was handed over to Libya in 2007 and later freed.....snip~

I don't know, Libya is not a strong point with me. Now why would you say a certain CIA General wanted him out of the way? But here is something that might interest you?

64% Favor Death Penalty for Benghazi Killings Suspect - Rasmussen Reports™

I do think it is a big mistake bring this guy back to the states and treat him as a regular law breaker. He should have been sent to Gitmo, found out what he knew and then stood before a military tribunal. I just can't understand treating these guys like they just robbed a liqueur store downtown Miami or something.

So is the arrest purely political on the administrations part, was he just a opportunistic target or is he really the "ring leader"?

Because even the Generals Spokesperson points out how they view him as a spiritual leader. Which then others think he contributed to the cause.

Another point is most of Benghazi didn't consider him to really be part of Ansar al Sharia. That he sided with all Islamists

Only a few witness say they saw him with weapons. Which they also said he was directing the attack and that was proven false. Which is why we are looking for that other Ansar al Sharia Leader.

It takes time to program someone to claim they were watching YouTube!

Okay, I had something more sinister in mind. If not sinister, a whole lot more complicated. Spiritual leader, fine. I heard during the fight this guy was directing traffic to and from the battle. Sounds more like an MP than a leader of men. He also walked around like he wasn't afraid of anyone on either side or all sides.

Mornin' Cal. :2wave: Yeah well according to the guys brother. His phone went dead on the 16th of June. So Right around when we snagged them. Moreover.....the Consulate has te footage from the beginning of the attack. This guy was no where around the scene at that time.

So I am sure some guy who isn't connected to others by sheer association can be given some talking points.....huh?

Mornin' Ockham. :2wave: Well I think we can see BO and his team look to change tangents again. So not many are talking about Stevens being sent out to meet that Turk Envoy.

bin Qumu? our old friend, the "AQ core" guy does get around, funny that Khatalla always gets the blame, but bin Qumu gets the Obama support, to overthrow Qadaffi.

Libyan "humanitarian war" ( going after Qaddafi and supporting the NTC AQ types)h was a very bad idea. I noticed Rand Paul at least mentioned today on Meet the Press

I'm becoming a big fan of Paul

don’t think I would put it that way. I disagree with the President - I disagree with him on the Libyan incursion and with arming the Syrian rebels

Who can possibly remember these different Arabic names, their affiliations or who, on either side, is telling the truth?

But, as Perotista pointed out, foreign criminal suspects should never be allowed to set foot in the United States. He will have already received his Miranda Rights I suppose.

Yeah well how long did I say he was arming the Syrians.....it goes all the way back to when Hillary was having her Friends of Syria Meeting. The CIA was suppose to stop al Nusra and ISIL from getting any weapons people were shipping. Which all knew that the Saud and Qatar was providing weapons for the Rebels/Terrorists inside Syria and Libya.

Now hows that piece of yours about Hifter sounding?

Like how the guy in Libya calling it for All Ansar Al Sharia brands there......almost has an Identical name to AQ's Z-man?

I liked it better when they were all called Nazis or Fascists, but now you can't even call them Muslims.

it was arrogant to pretend the Islamists weren't the most dedicated players in Syria - itoo have been watching numerous stories about al-Nusra disowning AQIR (now ISIL).

Yes Hillary started all this with her constant Friends of Syria meetings, and that same arrogance is still in play today.

Hifter is decidedly antiterrorist, I suspect he is CIA, trying to clean up the mess from Obama's "liberation" of the Libyan people from the "dictator"; much like Obama is still saying in Syria.
Still Stuck on stupid

Let's not forget his thoughts on Egypt as well. Egyptians Bewildered Over Support for Muslim Brotherhood

ya. I had forgotten that masterpiece  Support democracy even though the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood, was using Morsi to turn Eqypt into a theocracy.

Suspend aid, so Russia gets influence. :3oops: Obama is banal, over his head with yes men, and a foreign policy devoid of realpolitik

oh I don't know the names; last time I looked carefully they had 2 Prime Ministers, little or no oil out put, rationing of petrol in Tripoli, assorted kidnappings, militia for hire rule

bombed/shelled Parliament, so they had to meet in a hotel room, assassinations, sporadic elections...it's a fine mess of Obama's creating

US led on:
sorties/command and control/most missiles/targeted Qaddafi's convoy outside Sirte' for the French missile that got him chased down and ripped apart by the NTC.

Obama led from behind on the diplomatic front, but it was he whom decided "Gaddafi must Go", and Hillary's "We came, we saw He died" speech after his death.

I read the other day "Qaddafi wasn't the very best anti-terrororist partner we had, but he was better then most " He even warned AQ would take over if NATO had it's way.

Yeah as much of a nut as Gadhafi was......he was always a thorn in the Sunni and Sauds side. Once he started working on the goal of a United States of Africa. That totally interfered with the Sunnis quest for their United States of Islam. Gadhafi and his tribe have no luv for the MB either. So he had to go.

BO told Gadhafi he has to go......then Assad......and now he is telling Maliki, a democratically elected Leader that he should go.

If not go before his time....then at least Censured.

Now with some knowing His Team at State Hired AQ and Ansar al Shaira.....there may be good reason to. Especially once we find out who told Stevens to go and meet the Turk Envoy in Benghazi on 911 and knowing BO did not put the Nation on its highest Alert. Wherein Diplomats would stay Locked down.
