UK bans Teaching of Creationism in Any school that receives Public Funding.....

On Thursday, the United Kingdom expanded its ban on the teaching of creationism from all state schools, to all state schools as well as semi-private Free Schools and Academies.

The decision effectively means that no school in the United Kingdom can teach creationism or any other “anti-scientific” dogma without losing the entirety of its funding, as they would be violating “the requirement on every academy and free school to provide a broad and balanced curriculum. According to a press release from the British Humanist Association (BHA), the new rules “explicitly require that pupils are taught about the theory of evolution, and prevent academy trusts from teaching ‘creationism’ as scientific fact.”

Not even Intelligent Design — the favored faux-scientific theory of American creationists who wish to import biblical beliefs into public school classrooms — can be taught, as “creationism” is defined by the new rule as “any doctrine or theory which holds that natural biological processes cannot account for the history, diversity, and complexity of life on earth and therefore rejects the scientific theory of evolution.”.....snip~

I understand not teaching it in science class, but it should be brought up, there is room for intelligent design to fit into the theory of evolution and many believe that (I do).

Looks like they want all of it banned in their country. You can see how the Democrats here will be playing some Bruce Springsteen and Dancing in the Dark.

Haven't heard anything about it (although I live in UK) but don't care. Nobody cares, we're heading for atheism en masse.

It could be discussed in a class discussing philosophy. However, to do so and give a well rounded education, all creation stories should be discussed to include religions other than just Abrahamic religion creationism. But, it should not be taught as an alternative to scientific theories.

Semi-private, to me, means they get some government funding. Fully private schools can teach about the first great running of the Kentucky Derby that included dinosaurs for all I care.

Are they going to start up some Common Core too? Wonder what the UK system thinks of MO's Lunch Program? Think they will try some of that out?

I hate Common Core. You know that. MO's lunch program is a joke, as I described at length in another thread, because local districts buy the food and the food sucks, even the so called healthy food.

It's never much sense to me to compare the UK to the US. They have always been far more socialist and progressive than we are... thank God.

It's pseudoscientific nonsense. It has no place in a science class.

Some extra background information in this report. I can't find any major media comment with a quick scan, but then it's not that groundbreaking, despite the BHA bigging up their triumph.

England has a National Curriculum which covers the essential requirements of a state education.
