Creation should not be taught as a scientific "possibility" of the formation of earth, origin of the species in biology history or earth science. It isn't science, it isn't a theory, it doesn't belong. However in philosophy class it should be permitted.

According to a press release from the British Humanist Association (BHA), the new rules “explicitly require that pupils are taught about the theory of evolution, and prevent academy trusts from teaching ‘creationism’ as scientific fact.”

Not even Intelligent Design — the favored faux-scientific theory of American creationists who wish to import biblical beliefs into public school classrooms — can be taught, as “creationism” is defined by the new rule as “any doctrine or theory which holds that natural biological processes cannot account for the history, diversity, and complexity of life on earth and therefore rejects the scientific theory of evolution.”.....snip~

Well.....now we know what the Progressives and libs will picks up as a mantra for over here in the US, huh? Looks like the Brits will lead that way. What say ye?
It doesn't belong in science class as it is not scientific theory. However, banning it fully from schools is a bit much.

Banning creationism in a science class is completely understandable. However, as an elective I would have no problem with creationism being taught. I took bible literature when I was in school and as a literature course was both interesting and enjoyable.

Because the British school system allows for publically funded "academies" that are different from standard schools. Academies can be assosciated to various religous / ethnic groups and their curriculum can be "spun" towards the beliefs of that religous group, but evidently not slanted towards it.

We have the same concept here with charter schools. A charter school based on say Arab civilization / language" can put an Islamic "spin" on the material. Ditto for a Christian spin from a charter school based on "Great books of Western Civilization".

The law in question does not do that. Don't believe everything you read. All the law says is that non evidence supported theories cannot be taught as scientific evidence supported theories. It is kinda sad that a law like that is even needed...

The Intelligent design crowd, as some say was hijacked, heck maybe even invented by creationists who wished to mislead their subjects, however, as an atheist myself, I do subscribe to the notion that the universe does have an intelligent function, and if I were to pursue a scientific approach to an alternative theory to evolution, I'd go this route. Design implies purpose, and although there may indeed be a purpose to the functions of all the fundamental particles, atoms, molecules, science should be consumed with observing, testing, and delivering direction based on the function of the universe. This is what science does now. Hoping there's a God has no place in scientific exploration, but the journey could indeed lead us to that conclusion, and in that regard it does have a place in the discussion.
