ISIS in Iraq seizes control of Saddam Hussein’s chemical weapons facility

The chemicals break down over time and cease to perform their intended function.

That may be generally true... however...

Is there specific evidence that there are actual chemical weapons, the age of the chemicals, the type of chemicals, how they were stored, and a consensus by chemical weapons experts to validate this indeed is the case here?

I don't think there is so it's a little premature to say ISIL will not use chemical weapons when we have no detail about anything at all. How do we know the ISIL members who may want to use these chemicals if they exist at all, aren't complete morons and use them anyway?

How exactly would ISIL be killed trying to acquire the weapons?

how many people with knowledge in handling chemical weapons do you think the ISIS has in its membership.

ever tryyed managing a nuclear reactors inner workings without protective gear? that ends just as badly if anyone tried handling contaminated chemical weapons.

I addressed that in an earlier post.

I tried to find the Sat photos of the truck moving from Iraq to Syria back before the war...
We sent experts into Iraq to investigate that claim. After reviewing the available evidence they decided that it was unlikely to have happened.

Jack Shaw, who pimped the story himself, said that the Defense Intelligence Agency told him that the story was "Israeli disinformation."

Mr. Shaw said he acquired his intel about Russia's help in moving Iraq's WMD to Syria from a "good friend" of Dick Cheney's and that this info was derided by the DIA as "Israeli disinformation." After the Shaw launched the story, the Fox news reported "it isn't clear how this person has the authority or the knowledge to speak on such a matter."

Starting about 45 sec in he begins to talk about shopping the WMD to Syria story to the DIA. He says the DIA told him that the WMD to Syria thing is "Israeli disinformation."[around the 60 second mark] He then says that there was an effort to discredit him and the people associated with the story even though one of them was one of "the Vice Presidents very best friends." [around the two minute mark]

...scrubbed from the Net.

That's all possible [along with enough disinformation to go around] but, I've seen those photos before and I can no longer find them.

Even worse. At least in the nuclear plant everything has been maintained. God knows what the hell these chemicals have been doing for the longest time.

SIDENOTE

Am I supposed to care that Iraqis are killing each other?

Are you telling me you think the US military never bothered to check what was present at this site? Like, they just forgot or something?

If they did we sure don't know about it meaning they didn't make it public. My overall point is we're making lots of assumptions about chemical weapons when we actually don't have any facts about what is there, hold old it is, etc.

Why would they publicize that?

WMD's in Iraq? I can hear the leftie spin doctors now if that is true. "Well, Hillary, Reid and Pelosi all said that Iraq had WMD's when they voted to go to war with Iraq".

ISIS in Iraq seizes control of Saddam Hussein’s chemical weapons facility | BARE NAKED ISLAM

WSJ Sunni extremists in Iraq have occupied what was once Saddam Hussein’s premier chemical-weapons production facility, a complex that still contains a stockpile of old weapons, State Department and other U.S. government officials said. The capture of the chemical-weapon stockpile by the forces of the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham, known as ISIS or ISIL, the militant group that is seizing territory in the country, has grabbed the attention of the U.S.

"We remain concerned about the seizure of any military site by the ISIL,” Jen Psaki, the State Department spokeswoman, said in a written statement. “We do not believe that the complex contains CW materials of military value and it would be very difficult, if not impossible, to safely move the materials.”

The takeover underscores the chaos gripping Iraq and the possibility that the growing Sunni rebellion could further destabilize the Middle East. Not lost on U.S. government and military officials is the irony that the latest chapter in a war designed to strip Iraq of chemical weapons could see radical Sunni extremists take control of that same stockpile.

During the Iran-Iraq war of the 1980s, Hussein used the Muthanna complex to make chemical weapons, including sarin, mustard gas, and VX (a nerve agent), according the Iraq Study Group, which conducted the hunt for weapons of mass destruction in the aftermath of the war. The Iraq Study group did find chemical munitions at Muthanna but determined that inspections by United Nations Special Commission, or Unscom, had ensured the facility was dismantled and remaining chemical stocks militarily useless and sealed in bunkers.

CHEMICAL WEAPONS?? I was assured by scores of Leftists that there were no CW.

Bu....bu...bu... Saddam didn't have any WMDs. Meeeeeeeeeen ole Bush just made that up!

I don't think we should under estimate what they are capable of. After all a couple of people who barely knew how to get on a plane let alone fly one took down our Word Trade Center. Not knowing what they are doing with chemicals makes it more dangerous for others as well, not just themselves.

In 2003 there wasn't anything of high value. Even the article says they don't believe there is anything in there of military value. That doesn't mean they can't use the material in there to make some dirty type of chemical weapon that could affect a small amount of people.

11 years later? No. However in 2003 the weapons were quite usable and quite dangerous.

Which is good news for today...however when we went to war over them.....they were quite dangerous and could have been used.

Nonsense. Iraq was incapable of producing anything that would last longer than a few months even if stored under optimal conditions (and they never were). The chemicals in those shells have been degraded to the point that a spritz of Windex would probably be more hazardous to your health and so they have been for decades. We found quite a few of these old, abandoned, and useless munitions.
