I'm thinking that to get the Redskins to change their name, if their owner even would, would require compensation to the owner in the hundreds of millions of dollars. Redskins is a very valuable brand name, and no one in their right mind would just dump it for a new name without being heavily compensated.

Entertaining this whole name change idea, who would compensate the owner?

Im all for removing every Indian name, nickname, street, city name, school mascot name...all of it. Just completely eliminate it all. Out of respect of course.

It all gets rather silly. The majority of Indians in this country (some stats said as high as 90%) dont care, dont see it as offensive, hell, they root for them. I suppose a liot of them see the REAL problems their people face and are more concerned about THOSE issues other than a sports team and mascot.

I work with Indians. Our victim advocates serve families on the Goshute reservation. We have Indians sitting on the county DV and Child Abuse coalitions. You know what I NEVER hear them talking about?

The Redskins.

I've never seen you write **** about Indians unless its THIS topic. Ive never seen you post a single comment about their real world problems. TELL me you 'care' about Indians.

That's nothing but a base attack to devalue my perspective. You're just trying to bury my statements. Why would I not care about NAs? I think that's your burden to prove and "doesn't post about it" is insufficient evidence.

I think he's claiming there is no real (systemic) racism, as evidenced by those things being in existence. Some will only accept racism defined as racial bigotry, name calling.

If someone finds the use of a term offensive to them, the opinions or intentions of the person who used the term are irrelevant. Their is nothing inherently racist about the word 'negro,' it was considered the most polite term fifty years ago, and at least one African-American organization still has it in their name, but in the context of today, the term can be offensive and is often intended that way. Whether the person using the term is intending to be offensive or not, and whether they are aware that the term is outdated is irrelevant. What matters is that many people hearing the term infer that it was intended to be offensive and they are likely to feel offended.

My "suggestion" is that they change their name to the Stars - then they can argue with Dallas which star looks better on their helmet - the blue star of the Cowboys or the gold star of the Washington team.

Then again, I'm an Eagles fan.
