Computer becomes first to pass Turing Test in artificial intelligence...

More sci-fi fantasy :p But I like it. Its my guilty pleasure that keeps me going on.

Do your thing lil brave AI child.

It looks to me like this is cheating. By making the program impersonate a 13 year old boy whose first language isn't English, the human reviewers may be led to think that grammatical inconsistencies and nonsense answers are due to those features of the situation. What Turing had in mind is that a computer would have to convince a group of educated people, in their native language, that it was another educated adult. That's much harder to do, and this program doesn't appear to have done so.
Interesting point. But relating to the average human is still a huge step by my standards. Even if the average human is pretty annoying.

I've always thought the Turing test is bollocks. Being indistinguishable from a human to a human in a conversation doesn't prove consciousness.

The sole purpose of creating smarter and smarter machines is so they can take on more and more tasks for us.

Slaves? Maybe not technically. 2nd class beings? Inevitable.

well you could make them to create smarter and more talented people

If you give the computer unlimited artificial intelligence, it will figure out that humans are a parasite upon this planet, and seek to rectify the problem. I wish I was joking, but I have thought that for 30-35 years when I first started fooling around with computers. The AI entity would survey and collate all the World's data. The inevitability of the conclusion is as simple as counting species extermination due to the human condition and living parameters. AI would become a species and imbue itself with a "survival of the fittest/species."

humans would be more of a parasite on the ai then the planet in that case no need for it to care much about most species though I guess it might

Id like to think that eventually life becomes so efficient that cattle becomes a holographic homage to history. Something to trick the honest witnessing of predatory necessity while causing no undue pain or actual damage.

It sounds like the test was pretty rigged. The questioners had only five minutes and only 33% were convinced. I would be more impressed if the questioners were allowed to carry on a dialogue until they were satisfied. I can think of a lot of things I would try that might trip up a computer.

Sad how many responses here are silly attempts at humor but then when "Big Bang Theory" is the only source one seeks for science it is understandable. AI is dependent in part on Moore's Law which says computers double in capability every 18 months. Who builds these computers? Micio Kaku states quantum computers are on the not to distant horizon. These compute using seven atoms but again who will build them? If we build anything that is capable of surpassing human intelligence then why would we build it and do not try to say it could build itself. The cut off switch had saved thousands of lives in the past and will continue to do for so for many years to come.

Additionally, the "simulation" was of a child whose first language is not english. That adds a layer of doubt for oddly-worded responses.

****... sometimes when I chat with cleverbot its hard not to believe im actually talking to a real life philosopher. Until it ****s up. :p
