Lockheed to deliver first of 36 F-16s to Iraq this week

Well, not yet, but give a few days, they'll figure out how to start the engines.

No they won't, let me tell you why. When we sell weapons systems like these to foreign nations we keep the ability to shut off the logistics chain that supports them, these planes require a lot of maintenance, upkeep, parts, training on how to operate, etc...

Assuming they can manage to do all that on their own, the US Air Force is particularly deadly because it constantly has an AWACS overhead to direct the course of the air battle, an F-16 flown by some terrorist is not going to be as effective as one of our planes and would easily be shot down.

Does anyone really think the Iraqi's can competently fly F-16's? As a capitalist I hope we got cash on delivery....

Sand. F.O.D.

Hey, ask apacherat, he'll tell you how overqualified Iraqis are!

Wonder how long it will be before sense those aircraft flying against the U.S.

Those that don't know their history are doomed to repeat it. The U.S. Hasn't learned not to arm people we might be in conflict with tomorrow.

Almost zero. What a lot of people don't seem to understand is how maintenance and part dependent fighter aircraft really are.. most fighting vehicles, really.

To actually fly these planes against the US the enemy would need access to parts and maintenance training to be effective. Without a competent and trained ground crew maintaining those jets with access to copious supplies of replacement parts those Jets will likely rot. And then there is the issue of having competent pilots to fly them.

The most efficient removal of those planes would be for some ISIS crop duster to climb into one of these F16s and fly it towards Israel.

You should never listen to apacherat on anything

He seems to know quite a bit. Why he says anyone could probably fly our most modern plane, by gosh, they just about fly themselves!

He doesn't know anything. These planes require a lot of maintenance to stay operational, maintenance that requires a lot of training and parts which I promise you no out there has.

Anyone can fly our planes.

Doing it with any particular degree of skill is a different matter.

I'm an artist too, whenever I BBQ I draw flies.

Better F16'ss than F22's raptors.

An RPG isn't an F-16.

They go to Amazon.com and get the Falcon simulator for the pc and they can learn all the basics to operate the birds, easy piesy. Modern fighters and aircraft in general are designed to be easy to operate.

Do they need to? We should hope they don't and require lots of parts and replacements.

Generically speaking the more sophisticated the weapons system the larger the supply tail and more dependent on logistics you are.

Actually they pretty much do. At least once. Then they need fuel maintenance and the rest.

We should sell both ISIS and the Iraqi's Raptors. They are even more logistics intensive. Soak that money right up. Make each side spend themselves into oblivion.

Yeah?.....but more innocent people will be hurt.

Innocent people were going to be hurt regardless.
