State Department urges Americans to leave Libya Immediately.....

I agree. Gaddafi was far from a saint. However, over his years, as he matured, he probably became the best leader ever of a Muslim nation. He kept the extremists in check and the nation was prospering.

That's absurd. Gaddafi was better than, say, King Hussein of Jordan?

King Hussein is by far a better friend to the world. Gaddafi however was better in other manners, especially to rising the living standards of his people.

The 2013 HDI for Jordon is 0.700. Rated 100th in the world. Before the UN attack on Libya, it was 53rd in the world. Even now, the HDI for Libya has only dropped to 0.769 and is still at the 64th position among the world nations, only losing 11 positions among other nations.

In 1951 libya was the poorest country in the world, but just before the civil war libiyans enjoyed the highest standard of living in Africa also ahead of Russia, Brazil and Saudi Arabia.
In Libya Homes were considered as a human right.
Newly married couples received $50,000 to buy their homes.
Electricity was free to all people.
Before Gaddafi less than 1/5th of population of libya was literate, education after Gaddafi was free and 83% literacy rate.
Healthcare was free and of high quality.
All loans were interest free 0% by law.
When a Libyan bought a car, government paid 50% of price.
Price of Gasoline was 0.14$ (8.4 rupees a litre)
On 1st july 2011, 1.7 million people assembled in Green Square in support of Gaddafi, to show defiance against the NATO bombing Libya. That is 95% population of Triopoli or 1/3 the population of libya.
Libyan central bank was state owned, unlike the banks in west.
Libya was debt free.
In 1988 Libya was accused of being responsible for the Lockberie bombing of PanAm 103. It has transpired that the US gov paid witnesses at the trial up to $4 milion each, to testify against the accused Libyan men.
Qadaff was working to change the payment of Libya’s oil away from US dollar to the new gold African dinar.
This move promted Sarkozy to call Libya a threat to the financial security of Mankind.
Libyans had a lot of what we do not have in UK, US, EU.
He believed in direct democracy, and not in the current form of lie filled democracy where politicians will lie and manipulate to come in power. He believed in self rule.
Gadaff believed that parliamentary democracies were inherently corrupt.

If there was a reason (due to the leader killing his own people) to bomb a country on that time, it was Syria and not Libya.

Ghaddafi was the only one capable of leading libya because he effectivly removed anything that could have challenged his rule and possibly replaced him.

That's true, but .....
He did not achieve it by himself. That was what Libyan people wanted and they were way better and happier.

Honestly, do you really believe there was a good reason to bomb Libya or change the current government?? Was more necessary to go in Libya rather than Syria??
All the other continents had prospered and that continent has stuck for so many decades because the other part of world, especially EU do not let them to prosper.
French and US got butthurt because Gadaff was going to put gold African dinar.

if he had died of natural causes, i doubt that even one of his family members could keep libya peaceful.

So have you heard anything coming out of this issue in the last couple of days.....over there on that side of the pond?

Hey MMC. Glad to see you. :) I've been too busy with my work lately and honestly I've lost some events.

I've heard that the leader of Islamist militant group Ansar al-Sharia in Libya's Benghazi city warned the United States on Tuesday against interference or it would face worse than the conflicts in Somalia, Iraq, or Afghanistan. I guess US intelligence took this very serious.
Based on the chronology of the recent events, it also seem like there is going to be a long tough battle.
General Khalifa Hiftar seem to unite the army but he have to fight so many different kind of conflicts.

Sometimes Libya looks like Syria to me. One govern fighting so different opponents. And all parts are the bad guy (including the govern)

The reason I asked was due to the MS Media not really covering what this General was doing these last couple of days.....especially after he tried to grab the Parliament. I was wondering if had taken any hostages from the TNC.
