The world’s largest protest of fast-food workers kicked off Thursday with workers demonstrating in 150 cities in the United States and more than 30 other countries. The protesters are demanding better pay in a global rallying cry against rising income inequality, continuing on the heels of an 18-month-long labor campaign for higher fast-food wages in America. In the U.S., organizers said thousands who wanted their pay increased to $15 per hour participated in the labor action and were joined by other McDonald’s, Burger King, Wendy’s and KFC workers in countries such as Brazil, New Zealand and Morocco, taking a stand for the first time, according to a statement from activist group Fast Food Forward, which is helping coordinate the protests.

Kendall Fells, leader of Fast Food Forward, told Al Jazeera that the dozens of New York City workers who walked off their jobs in November 2012 have now launched a global movement to raise the wages of fast-food workers and continue the conversation on income inequality.
“It’s a sign of the times, and people are struggling,” he said. "If we want to get the economy back on track, we need to get more money in the pockets of people. People around the country thought we were crazy to ask for $15, but now Seattle has [proposed] this."

One of the biggest protests globally in solidarity with eachother all revolving around raising the minimum wage. I support these protests, and believe not only should the minimum wage but one of the most profitable industires should be paying their employees much much better. Im behind the $15 demand.

I hope it succeeds, I would like to see the fast food market demolished.

Precisely. Who cares if those young folks and those with two jobs are out of work, right?

Good, now really DO that. Go to a fast food place every day, order something small, and then tip all the employees 300%.

Most if not all fast food restaurants do not accept tips. Worked at Subway for some time during highschool and we were told never to accept tips.

A good socialist will find some way to get that tip to them - I mean if you're really serious about supporting them.

i tip if there is a jar. I work at a restaurant. I definitely understand the struggle.

Let them get a job that doesn't poison people. Down with fast food.

If this succeeds, I'll get my wish - there will no longer be a fast food market.

 Yea because its about socialism. I just think they should get paid a $15 wage because it keeps up with productivity and inflation, and its also because ifs liveable, and allows more purchasing power.

Not the point. They're in a struggle for a higher wage right now, you support them in that, so do it. You know how to slide a tip over the counter. That the restaurant doesn't allow tips or that there's no tip jar is just a lame excuse. If you support them, then do so.

I was talking about YOU, not calling this a socialist issue.

So I'm assuming you would say to all those who favour America to go to war that they should enlist and fight?

I feel sympathetic, but I don't understand how flipping burgers should pay $15/hr. It's also usually part time with no benefits. I go to McDs sometimes just to avoid a tip and save a couple of bucks. Then I feel guilty and go to a local Restuarant to balance my kharma.

Yep, and I'll win the lottery. :lamo

Yup. Or at the very least give material support to those who do.

How about you explain your negative reaction. ON what premise is this a bad idea. You so gungho with your sarcasm almost as if you don't think there is no counter argument that refutes every argument that insists on increasing minimum wage would be trouble.

This should be called the "Really Stupid People's Strike." No matter the outcome, it will end very badly.

How about first YOU explain why you don't really want to support these folks in this struggle when it comes to actual dollars leaving your pocket?

No. You have just told a person to pay a fast food worker if they want to see them earn more, that means all war-mongers would have to be suited and booted ready for deployment to Afghanistan. This is clownboy's world of "if you support a policy, shut up and do it".

There is no fast food restaurant, aside form a rare few, that accepts tips. Period. That alone destroys your silly argument. I have worked fast food. An employee is directly instructed to not accept them.

Why not protest against that? Then those who want to pay more for garbage can do so.

these people are not realistic. if they expect their hourly wage to be increased, so shouldn't everyone else get the same kind of increase?

look at the millions of people who pay for a college education and go into debt in the 10's of thousands of dollars and these people want a wage that is equivalent to a college educated person first starting out in a new job!

Nice try, but you don't know enough to get your targeting right. I'm a Vietnam vet and have volunteered at the veteran's hospitals wherever I live since. Also volunteered locally to put together care packages for the GIs in the field.
