Ha ha, just was reading about that. But as it turns out, he gets lots of credit and even some merit for pointing out the hypocrisy rather than reveling in it. Besdies as Louie has said many times, guys like him should take any chick they can get!

Indeed, and I'm not sure how to answer that.

What his opinions speak to is the "teaching to the test" that occurs now. These standardized tests are SO important to the school that the teachers have to devote most of their time preparing the kids to take this test. Which is exactly what Liberals were talking about during Bush's "No Child Left Behind" BS. To say that these are "Conservative" ideas is wrong. It's common sense ideas vs. government ideas.
I don't think we should be teaching to the test, in fact, I don't think teachers ought to have access to the specific tests at all. I wouldn't have a problem if they had access to a couple of thousand potential questions that might be on the test their school gets, but the idea is that their students absorb the curricula, not that they learn to answer specific questions with specific answers. If the tests cover everything the students are supposed to have learned during the year, then maybe the teachers, administration and school board might have to do their jobs and teach what they're supposed to teach.
There is nothing demonstrably true that religion can provide the world that cannot be achieved more rationally through entirely secular means.

IMO, just another sure-to-fail system so the FedGov to come to the rescue with a fully nationalized, across-the-board, program that all schools, public and private, will be mandated to adopt...... like ObamaCare.

This is what I was getting at in my previous post. I think some sort of periodic testing is necessary to evaluate whether the student is actually learning the material. Some kids are great at memorization and can ace a test with specific memorized answers. But if you ask the questions in a different way or at a different time, they won't be able to answer it because they have not been educated in the subject. The test should be to evaluate whether the student is reasonably grounded in a subject for his/her age/grade level and not just good at memorizing answers. And all, teachers, parents, and students should know what they will be expected to know to pass a particular course of learning.

But the teachers should not have access to the test. They should know what the kids will be expected to know, but they should not know specific questions that will be asked.

He was married for a number of years. Thus, he has kids that are in school.

    Ugly maybe, but funny.

True. I'm proof that funny can negate ugly to a certain extent with the ladies.
