Michael Jordan: I was against all white people

Hatin' white people and got cut from his high school hoops team. Man...me and Mike had more in common than I thought...

Ummmm in addition to her childhood she admitting using it as an adult and and in more recent years.

There is a difference here. Rather large actually.

She and her brother both used the word, and it wasn't 30 years ago. Her brother's restaurant (the one in the lawsuit) is now closed. Shame he turned out to be such a racist dickweed. He had the best chargrilled oysters I've ever had.

But yeah, people love to throw Paula Deen into the mix, and they probably never read a single line from the deposition. I read all the depositions, and my eyes were burning after it was all over. So, so much more was going on than just her use of the N word.

Who's that? I haven't seen one political post in this thread so far. Was this meant for another thread?

We all know that it is only conservatives who believe that anti-white racism is a significant problem in the USA.

Read thread.

I did and couldn't find an example of a "really famous white person [who] admits that they were a racist when they were a teenager, [that is] smeared and labeled [as] a racist in this day and age."

That's bull****, but to entertain you, who, in this thread, has said that anti-white racism is a significant problem in the USA?

Ok, thanks for playing. Goodbye and have a nice day.

Who cares? Those of you who haven't used the N word cast the first stone. If you say you never have...you are a liar.

I'm sick of all this whiny race-baiting crap. You all need to grow up and realize Utopia is unreachable. Man is fallible and sinful.

I just answered a question bud. If you are going to go around saying I'm trying to "create utopia" then you couldnt be more wrong. And what the **** does this have to do with anything at hand?

Why is this not big news in light of the recent Donald Sterling scandal? Paula Deen lost her career simply for saying that she used the 'N' word a long time ago. Why no backlash on Michael Jordan?

Michael Jordan's upbringing detailed in new book - ESPN

Because sometimes life doesn't meet our expectations, sometimes life isn't fair, sometimes people have different standards than we do, sometimes people see similarities where others do not.

Michael Jordan held those views 35 years ago, talked about how he got over them, and repudiated them.

Donald Sterling held those views 35 days ago, and hasn't. That's why.

Ok, to be fair, the NBA didn't know that Jordan is a racist when they allowed him to buy a team, but they did know that Donald Sterling is a racist when he bought the Clippers. Does that make the entire NBA racist?

There's no evidence that Michael Jordan IS a racist. He said he WAS. As a teenager.

There is evidence that Donald Sterling IS a racist.

This is a pretty bad False Equivalency Tango you're dancing here.

So apparently your idea of a possible 'reformed racist' is only applicable to black people, not to white people?

Who said that? What's with the strawmen?

I'll give you a white "reformed racist." Robert Byrd.

And we're supposed to just take his word?

In the absence of any evidence otherwise, I would. See, it is part of that whole, different things are different kinda thing. Jordan, as an adult, acted somewhat different from Deen. I am not sure why this is so hard to understand for you.

And we're supposed to just take his word?

What actions of his since those days make you think he hasn't changed? Clearly, nobody in this thread knew he had ever held racist views at any point in his life until he admitted it in his book, in which he also says how his mother (I think) told him how those views were bad and how he rid himself of them and repudiated them. Funny how you're not even mentioning that.

He acted differently than an adult than Deen, sure, he slam dunked basketballs and she cooked food, that is very different. So what?

So you're claiming that MJ, off the court, held the same racist views that Paula Deen did away from the kitchen? If so, can you prove it? The depositions from the Deen lawsuit are much more damning than "she said the N word 30 years ago." So show me the money. Where's proof of Racist Michael Jordan after the age of 16?

I didn't (seriously) call him a racist either. Just wondering why he gets a pass when he changes his views, and others do not?

That is far from the only difference, but it goes back to what I have been saying...different things are different. It is pretty stupid to get upset because people treat different things differently.

So name me the person who "changed their views" and didn't get a pass? There's little evidence that Paula Deen "changed her views."

Actually, the book in question about Jordan was written by someone else, and he took the racism quotes from a Playboy interview with Jordan. In 1992. So this has been on the record for 22 years, and nobody gave a **** until right now.
