Michael Jordan: I was against all white people

No, not really surprising. Just wondering why, if the goal is equality?

I think there are several factors that play into it.

Start with who was oppressed? Then look at black culture and its acceptance of the practice among black people. And so on...

I'm pretty liberal and I speak out about it consistently.

Which is the way it should universally be. But we both know that it isn't.

More racism BS i am sick of hearing it day in and out.

Why don't you read what he said? He simply admitted he hated white people when he was a teen.

Hardly criminal. He grew up.

I'm all for calling out black people for their racism. I called out Barkely's comments about the NBA. But Jordan was a kid.

And if we white people said anything about hating blacks "as kids" we would be labeled racist. But this is the vaunted MJ. He could dunk so that makes all the difference.

And if we white people said anything about hating blacks "as kids" we would be labeled racist..

I'm not so sure you're right about that. Kids get a pass.

IMO Paula Dean got canned for using fat in her recipes by the food nazis.
Do you have proof that food nazis got rid of her? Don't you think that idea is just a bit over the top?

Kids in general get a pass, but if a really famous white person admits that they were a racist when they were a teenager, they are smeared and labeled a racist in this day and age.

He's an arrogant prick who shamed himself when he came out of retirement to play for the Wizards...

I was at a casino and ran into him awhile back, I wasn't stalking him, we just happen to cross paths..."Hello Mr. Jordan, how ya doing this evening..."

Looking me dead in the eye, "..."

Nothing.

"That good, eh?" I fired off as I started to walk away from him "WOW! Whatta f'n prick..."

Can you name an example of this happening?

Paula Deen. Ok she wasn't a teenager (maybe), but she did change her ways.

Her actions occurred as an adult in the recent past. Specifically, she owned a restaurant with a racist (and sexually abusive, not to mention alcoholic) manager and did nothing about it.

The recent past? Over three decades ago. She changed since then. Can adults not change?

The restaurant manager, come on that's business. The NBA allowed two owners with a racist past (Donald Sterling and Michael Jordan) into the league. Does that make the entire NBA racist?

Why is this not big news in light of the recent Donald Sterling scandal? Paula Deen lost her career simply for saying that she used the 'N' word a long time ago. Why no backlash on Michael Jordan?

Michael Jordan's upbringing detailed in new book - ESPN

Why would you expect there to be backlash? It's not anywhere near the same thing. His views were shaped by where he lived and the KKK. Sterling's views were shaped by his white privilege.

He didn't look to happy last week when the Heat hammered his Bobcats in 4 consecutive games either.

That's pretty prickly. I had a very similar experience with Dr. J.

Who cares? Those of you who haven't used the N word cast the first stone. If you say you never have...you are a liar.

I have never ever called someone that word.

I'm sick of all this whiny race-baiting crap. You all need to grow up and realize Utopia is unreachable. Man is fallible and sinful.

Three decades ago? WTF?

She *still* owns the restaurant. It happened within the last two years.

Right. It's business - her business. She owns it and she is responsible for what goes on there

And what went on there was sexual and racial harassment.

Provide an example.

May everything he touches rot...

Maggie, if a white kid grew up in Harlem or Compton, or name your black neighborhood, and they were picked on and beaten up by black people as a teenager, then they went on to become very famous and they admitted that they hated ALL black people as a teenager, would it be blown over and attributed to their upbringing, or would their name be smeared and them labeled a racist?
