Rice Withdraws from Rutgers Commencement [W:77:155]

re: Rice Withdraws from Rutgers Commencement [W:77]

Obviously, I was referring to your signature, not your (ridiculous) post. Still, it's surprising to me that someone with such hard right views would quote a Socialist in their sig.

What are hard right views, and how do you know I hold them?

I really don't care if Einstein was a socialist, or any other ist. He was a brilliant man and changed the course of science for the whole world, and his influence will be felt for centuries to come. I found that quote when i was in college and it closely matches my views on religion. Sorry if I don't conform to the stereotype you've created about conservatives.

Of course it was a ridiculous post. That was my intent.

re: Rice Withdraws from Rutgers Commencement [W:77]

I've seen your posts here. I don't think you're qualified to judge anything posted on this board based on IQ. The fact that you took my post as a serious statement is evidence of that.

Lol...I took your statement as neither serious or not serious.

I took it for what it was...a ridiculous statement.

And I commented accordingly.

Good day.

re: Rice Withdraws from Rutgers Commencement [W:77]

You too obviously did not really read the OP or the link.

"As a Professor for thirty years at Stanford University and as it’s former Provost and Chief academic officer, I understand and embrace the purpose of the commencement ceremony and I am simply unwilling to detract from it in any way".

That is what she said...that does not mean that is what she thought - only she knows that.

Surely you do not believe ex-politicians mean everything they say?

Good day.

Nice backpedal.

Good to to you!

re: Rice Withdraws from Rutgers Commencement [W:77]

Yet another example in the evidence file that our universities have been taken over by the left. What is it with you leftist and free speech anyway? Why do you try so hard to muzzle any point of view you don't share? One thing though, Condi is one classy lady and showed the kids and profs at Rutgers how to be an adult.
Condi Rice prevented herself from going; no leftist stopped her from freely speaking. As a matter of fact take note of what the President of Rutgers said:

In a statement when the controversy first erupted, Rutgers president Robert Barchi said, “We cannot protect free speech or academic freedom by denying others the right to an opposing view, or by excluding those with whom we may disagree. Free speech and academic freedom cannot be determined by any group. They cannot insist on consensus or popularity.”

The University is the only factor that could have stopped her and they didn't choose to do so; it was Rice's decision alone.

Nice backpedal.

Good to to you!

Explaining exactly why I did what I did is back pedalling to you?

Okaaaaay.

Well, I think I have wasted enough time on someone that would say something so nonsensical as:

'Why do liberals hate black people?'

We are definitely done on this - I only waste so much time on people I don't respect.

Good day.

It was pretty obvious from your first reply to me that you took my post seriously. Then you do a nice pirouette and say you didn't take it seriously or not seriously. If you're going to try to insult me personally, at least have the courage to stick by it. Otherwise you just look sad.

Lol...you also said in another thread:

'It's good to see the racists lose.' Referring to those who support Affirmative Action.

Your track record is clear pal...making ridiculous race-based statements against liberals seems to be a hobby for you.

Bye bye now.

re: Rice Withdraws from Rutgers Commencement [W:77]

certain faculty and students bullied rice into withdrawing.

they're a bunch of hypocrites as far as i'm concerned. they must feel really satisfied with their accomplishment.

Bullying?

Exercising their right to free speech by peacefully protesting is bullying to you?

Noted.

Ah, how sweet of you to get all stalkery and look at my previous posts! Actually, I was dead serious about the affirmative action post. Why would any logically minded person support a racist policy? It boggles the mind. By the way, just to be perfectly correct, I didn't say a word about liberals in the affirmative action thread. That was your own projection.

I was playing around in this thread, and made a post similar to ones I've seen by some on the left here concerning conservatives. Your weak attempt at a personal insult was pretty funny.

Yes, I think the safest thing for you now is to scurry away. No more stalking, now!

I was looking at some of the headlines on Google News about this story, and saw this post on Google+:

The Rutgers community has every right to make their feelings known about Condi Rice addressing their grads. But they are losing far more than they win when Rice does the classy thing and turns down the invite. It’s easy to place your hands over your ears and shut out ideas you disagree with. It is so much harder — and far more honorable — to open your mind in order to listen to someone with whom you have little in common.

I think that pretty much nails how I think about these kinds of situations.

And then he said this;

"Barchi had adopted a different tone this week: “I frankly wish from my point of view that this whole affair was not here right now because it’s distracting from what great things we’re doing as a university. . . . It does have us, for better or worse, right in the crosshairs right now.”

You really should have kept reading beyond what you wanted to see.

yes they were exercising their right of free speech but all speech is not the same with it's intent.

I still don't see peaceful demonstrating as bullying.

Legally exercising free speech in a peaceful manner is NEVER bullying to me...it is utilizing the rights granted in the constitution.

But you are free to interpret their actions anyway you wish...that is your right.

the protest was about, we can't allow rice's speech at rutgers because of politics. she's a BAD person.

re: Rice Withdraws from Rutgers Commencement [W:77]

I think people need to learn the diference between liberal and authoritarian leftist so they do not use the terms interchangeably.

Extreme attempts to silence people are the product of an authoritarian leftist approach rather than liberal, and in that, these authoritarian leftists share many traits with the portion of the far right that is just as far from center.

I'm reminded here of the way Brandeis treated Ayaan Hirsi Ali because she champions the rights of Islamic women -- what is actually liberal and what is called liberal due to the activities of authoritarian leftists are often two different things.

It's still exercising their right to free speech...I see nothing bullying about that.

They have the right to say that they do not want Rice to speak...just as others have a right to protest that they want her to speak now that she is not.

None of that seems like bullying to me.

IMO, free speech should always be encouraged...never discouraged.

And so how does that wish stop Condi Rice from speaking? :waiting:

As I said in the OP, Rice showed alot of class by gracefully stepping aside. I never said she was stopped by anybody but putting words in peoples mouth they never said is the old and tiresome trick you libs always attempt.

That, and categorizing everyone as a "lib" or a "con".

Oh. So no one stopped Ms. Rice from talking, huh. I guess she chose on her own not to talk because she felt it would be a disruption. Why goodness sake she even stated that in her statement on why she is not going. (Something of which no one stopped her there, either.)

There is no in between. There is nothing in the middle but a large gaping chasm that swallows you up into a black hole of non commitment and babble. You can however be independent by being lib on some things, con on others.

You are a slow learner, that was all in the OP.
