Sometimes known as Weird News Daily.
Just for the record...So is it hate speech or the encouragement of violent acts?
Sometimes those two things go together.

This is a perfect example of what we do not want here at DP folks. The next time I see it or something like it and infractions will be handed out. And if that is too vague for you...stop the trolling, baiting, and flaming. Or else.

Is it better to just put it bluntly: he's over-dramatizing and misconstruing (probably purposefully) what the proposed legislation is actually about?
I can't decide if it's worse to **** with someone and mock them or to purposefully misrepresent what something is about in order to promote your own agenda.
I have no agenda, other than to warn people about Gov't overreach and mob rule. The rest is your own imagination.
Who can be the first to correctly answer why the Gov't never wants to admit mistakes or appear to be wrong?
Here's what hating "whistle blowers" on government spying of monitoring citizens leads too. A Bill that will allow the Feds to scour the Internet for anything they *think* or deem as "hate speech". That would include anything said on websites like Debate Politics, concerning these subjects, based on gender, race, religion, ethnicity, or sexual orientation and create recommendations to address such crimes.
Don't think it could happen? We could be creating an environment that we didn't expect or want. Watch out who you condemn, it may be yourself.
Big chill: Feds want to scour Net, media for ‘hate speech’
this isn't a violation of the first amendment at all
thought police backers will be happy though.
No, it's not even a constitutional challenge but I believe it's setting a dangerous precedent. When there's an attempt to use the anti hate speech laws as a specific tool for a form of censorship, it starts to become vague about what's wrongly said and what's dangerous speech. The law is meant as a blunt tool, not a weapon of control and there's too much Media outrage influencing the decisions of regulating organizations right now.

The bill also applies to those encouraging the commision of crimes of hate which are not necessarily violent since they may include acts of graffiti or vandalism.
FBI — Overview
The fed has been doing that for years. That was most of the NSA's monitoring of US citizen's cell phone chatter. Or their online exchanges. The NSA has algorithms that processed millions of calls and online posts every day. They don't keep records of the banter. All they're looking for is key words. "Bomb" is a biggy. That'll get you some unwanted attention. Phrases that threaten violence against the US get recorded, and are sometimes investigated. That's what the NSA concerned itself with: finding domestic terrorists. They could care less about your latest saccharine call to a new lover.
Not a lawyer here, but wouldn't that fall under "conspiracy to commit crime" under any other circumstance?
I don't care what the hell they are concerned about. The government is limited in action and power. That's it. These "if you've done nothing wrong, you have nothing to fear" arguments (which most assuridly yours is) are crap arguments based in authoritarianism and not upon the rights and liberties of The People.
psh, then i would have never enjoyed that 70s show.
obviously the feds can, but its a huge slope between going after a wannabe warlord like tigger than someone like me. These things have happened in the past, but we will see it coming years in advance.

They may only be looking for terrorists now but there's nothing to stop them from gathering other kinds of information. Everything from peoples dirty little secrets, comments on race, criticizing the gov't to keeping a dossier on people of position and power... all for leverage.
