Magic Johnson reportedly interested in buying the Los Angeles Clippers

No one is above the law even the thugs in the NBA.

"Thugs"? LOL

It's funny that the only people objecting to a business making a business decision are of the political bent that proclaims itself as one that thinks businesses should be able to do what they want, whenever they want.

The NBA made a business decision. Deal with it.

It's none of your business or mine.

It doesn't affect us in anyway.

I'm just wondering what you think people should do, do you want the world to collectively pretend that none of this ever happened? Does that really seem realistic?

No, YOU and yours can't ignore it and do nothing about it.

What happens when the shoe is on the other foot? Like Cuban said, "Slippery slope" "Who's next?"

And he's right. I think this was a bit heavyhanded, but it's also a lifetime achievement award for Sterling for being a dickhead for 30 years. You reap what you sow.

As soon as someone can tell me what constitutional right of Mr. Sterling's was violated, I'll change my mind about this. But he has not been sanctioned by the government, only by the rules of an organization that were mutually agreed upon when he bought into it.

I'm actually fine with the NBA's decision, it's the way the information was obtained that bothers me.

I highly suspect that in itself was a criminal act.

"You and yours"? How about the NBA? The league was facing a full on walkout from players over this. The players are the product.

Capitalism, baby. Catch the fever.

It bothers me too, and I have no doubt it was a criminal act.

What happened? A man said some stupid things?

That happens everywhere, everyday.

Yeah they're going to walk away from millions of dollars because some old guy said some ugly words. Trust me, they've heard it all before.

Hell Sterling didn't even use the infamous *N* word.

I did hear someone say the Black players should form an all-black league with all-black owners. How's that for diversity and fairness?

People telling their significant others who they prefer they hang out with or not hang out with also happens every day. But from here on in, it's okay to publicly vilify those people, all in the name of capitalism which the left is enthusiastically supporting all of a sudden.

Actually, he did. Once, in 1983. No, I'm not kidding. It's in some list that some loon is keeping of Sterling's transgressions against black people.

NBPA vice president Roger Mason Jr., says players were ready to boycott if Donald Sterling wasn't banned - ESPN

According to the VP of the players' union, all six teams scheduled to play last night were ready to stand down unless the NBA took decisive action.

This is a purely secondhand anecdote, so take it with a grain of salt: A friend I work with is friends with the Warriors' beat writer, and before the penalty was handed down, both teams (Warriors and Clippers) were ready to do warmups, line up for the opening tipoff, and walk off the court in protest. Sterling's words struck a major nerve with the players.

And **** Larry Johnson for saying that. That said, he's not a guy who has people's livelihoods in his racist hands.

OK, tres. Put yourself in the NBA's shoes. What would you have done if you were Adam Silver?

It's been happening for some time now. I keep going back to what Mark Cuban said about "who's next"

Damn Thought Police

Bizarre how many conservatives always creep out the woodwork to defend racist.

I'm sure they were cheering the burning of Dixie Chick CD's but man....how dare people object to racist comments.

Lighten up. Nobody I've seen is supporting this guy at all. BTW, what ever happened to the Chicksy Dicks, anyway?

A man said some stupid things that negatively affected a commercial association (NBA) that he had voluntarily joined. The leader of that association (NBA commissioner) punished him (as severely as possible) for that infraction and the other members (NBA board of governoors) will likely vote to force him out. That does not happen everywhere or every day - which is exactly why this is news.

Not acted this quickly, honestly. This was a knee jerk reaction, IMO, not a well thought out reaction.

I think making an example out of this guy in the end would be fine if it suits their purposes. But I'll stick to my original thoughts that a true sports fan wouldn't have held the NBA responsible for the words of an owner than were said in private to his girlfriend. For a day or two, sure. But not for any length of time.

I also want to go on record saying how annoying it was getting updates on the internet this morning. I limit my Google searches to a few key words to get the latest news. This morning my search was "Sterling Silver". You can only imagine where that took me. :2mad:

Not appeal to public whims. Seven figure fine for all players who boycott.

Players need owners more than owners need players. Without the NBA, Sterling is still a billionaire and LeBron is towel-drying some hoopty in Akron.

Really? Without the labor, there is no product.

Really? Without the labor, there is no product.

I was calling for them to boycott the other day (instead of the "oh we're going to turn our shirts inside out" nonsense), some of you kept yelling at me that they had contracts and couldn't do it. When they threaten to do it, it's all good, because it's in the name of capitalism.

I'm struggling to keep up with the moving goal posts.

There's always talent that will play. Might not be as good, but if LBJ won't play, there are crops of kids willing to take a year of underwater basket-weaving and shut their mouths for a fat paycheck if it means not working the drive thru at the Compton Del Taco.

Adam Silver was facing a full-on insurrection from players, coaches and sponsors. This was not Sterling's first offense; this was his last (and most public) strike. He got a pass for three decades (for which many people are responsible), and Silver (who has been commissioner for less then three months) had to act quickly and decisively. And I've met Adam Silver. Trust me, this was well thought-out ... nothing he does isn't. He's the most deliberate person in sports. This was a message, and it won't be the last one. There's a new sheriff in town in the NBA; Sterling was just the first outlaw to get the noose.

Oh god.

That worked out great for the NFL in 1987. Might want to read up on sports history before saying something THAT stupid.

I was wrong about that; to be honest, I didn't think they'd have the balls to do it. I'm glad they did. And the "almost did it" is not as hollow as it sounds. From everything I've read and heard (admittedly some of it from inside people that you wouldn't believe me if I told you, and rightfully so), it was real as real gets.

That's a "you're gonna have to take my word for it" thing, and I don't blame you a bit if you don't. But I have it on good authority that they were ready and willing to walk off the court, at least the the Warriors-Clippers game, if something wasn't done. And apparently, it was the Warriors' idea.
