No, it's called a fact. You see, the vast majority of gun owners take the ownership responsibility to ensure access is limited. What many control advocates want is to restrict everyone because of those who either illegally possess guns or are careless which is a distinct minority...

Posted a couple of links. How sad is it that the NRA opposes technology that would limit the usage of handguns?

In the words of the NRA, this might lead to "opening the door to a ban on all guns that do not possess the government-required technology."

Except that no one at this point is even suggesting this technology be government mandated. Given the millions of legal guns currently in circulation, I am not even certain that such a requirement could even be technically or logistically feasible, let alone desirable.

But... leaving that aside for a moment, how deluded are people if they think that this is the beginning of some kind of gun-armageddon? No one is suggesting you give up normal guns, no one is suggesting that we get rid of them. This is just one way of protecting people from gun-related accidents and tragedies. In the words of the Daily Kos article,
I have no problem with Armatix promoting their "firearm" nor do I have a problem with anyone who wants to purchase one.

What I do have a problem with is state legislatures which are trying to pass firearms bills which will restrict the sale and possession of firearms that DON'T have this kind of technology. In some cases these proposed laws would restrict the sale or possession of ALL common firearms once this so called "safe" technology becomes available.

Massachusetts, New Jersey and Maryland already have the basic structure of such laws on their books and there is a definite push from the Obama administration to head in this direction on a national level.

From a strictly capitalist perspective it's obvious that Padilla wants Armatix to be in on the ground floor once some of these laws kick in.

Any sane examination of this kind of technology will show its extremely limited utility and the arguments for implementing it on a wide scale completely avoid common sense discussion of the defensive use of firearms. Logically, there can be no good reason to push this technology EXCEPT when it comes to limiting 2nd amendment rights.

You can't improve the fundamentals of something that works as well as a traditional firearm. This is why I cannot take the "smart gun" argument seriously, the gun is a POS dude, there is nothing to "improve", everything about the initial design is flawed and useless to people who are in the know. Guys like me have been shooting for most of our lives, we know the ins and outs of firearms, and we know what works and what doesn't. This design is willing to trade ten major negatives for each possible and very minor positive.
Neither side in an argument can find the truth when both make an absolute claim on it.

    See above post.

For the gun, you are going in the opposite direction as your plane example.

The purpose of the safe gun is to design a gun that only fires if the owner pulls the trigger, and hopefully eliminate accidental deaths due to user error.
