So they could stage a protest.

I'm all for protest, but I don't think this is a good way to do it. Not the worst way, I would just say it was rude.

I wonder if the people mad about this walkout were mad about the walkout below?

However, even leaving that aside, what GM said wasn't true. The idea that the only things that should be made illegal are things that cause others harm is not a liberal position; It's more of a libertarian position. Liberals tend to have a more balanced view and do support when the govt makes laws, not just to protect peoples' rights, but also to promote the general welfare
I'm gonna ask for an example of what you mean by laws that support the 'general welfare'. I picture anti-noise bylaws.

Good. You've found the words to summarize your position perfectly. When you fumble about in the future, just refer back to your mantra.

Been at school all day and wrote a paper.

I think it would have been appropriate to protest outside. I'm not saying what they did do should be illegal, it's just rude and inappropriate and disrespectful to the speaker.

Well, welfare for one thing. All the other entitlement programs. Environmental laws, business regulation, laws which promote public health and safety......
