Louisiana lawmakers advance bill that would make the Bible the state

Rep. Thomas Carmody (R) said he sponsored the proposal at the request of a constituent but insisted that the bill wasn’t designed to be a state-endorsement of Christianity.
“It’s not to the exclusion of anyone else’s sacred literature,” he told the House committee. He added, “This is not about establishing an official religion of the state of Louisiana.”

A quick trick to see if this actually an endorsement is to substitute another religion's sacred text as the official state book and poll the legislature.
What an enormous waste of time and money.

Who suggested the idea I wonder...

This has to be a parody. No one is actually dumb enough to try this...

Surely Green Eggs and Ham would suit your average citizen of Louisiana better than the Bible.

Based on this, it would be a little advanced for them. Louisiana, taking over from SC for most embarrassing state in the union.

I thought that title was previously held by NJ; they actually wanted Bruce Springsteen's Born to Run to be the official state song even though it was a song about getting the **** out of NJ. ;)

Every state has silly reps who do stuff for attention from the homefolks.

Yet only some morons choose to do so in, literally, biblical proportions. ;)

This got spun off The Onion somewhere, right?

Right?

Sorry but no.

Fundamentalists are trying to create a theocracy akin to Saudi Arabia with the same style of controls on thoughts, actions and dress.
Time to wake the **** up!

Folks in Louisiana have reached a breaking point with this governor, with very high unfavorables and term-limited.
And to think people are already giving the Governorship to Senator "Diapers" Vitter. :lamo
Interesting to see what Senator replacement laws there are if he does win.

And interesting for me to see how this and other factors hurting the GOP in LA will spin the Landrieu race .

what ever happened to "Congress shall make no law .......... "

or?

You do know the difference between the Federal Government and a State Government, right? And someone mentioned Green Eggs and Ham.

1st amendment applies to state governments too, chief.

By all means.
Though it seems that many people did not see it down there.

Other than the 3 pages on it you mean?
