I wish I had a dollar for every time I read something to the following effect: "You don't need religion to be moral; someone who is nonreligious can be just as moral as someone who is." Assuming two people adhere to the same moral standard, why is person "A" (a religious person who thinks it's immoral to cheat on your spouse") a greater hypocrite than person "B" (a non-religious person who thinks it's immoral to cheat on your spouse) when they both violate their own moral standard? Does the mere act of keeping your mouth shut mean you can violate your own standard of morality and not be a hypocrite? Are there degrees of hypocrisy, so that if you're not religious we'll just accept that your moral standard is lower than that of the religious guy?

Spin it anyway you want, it is just downright hypocritical to label yourself as one thing - in the course of an election no less....and then go against those standards in a big way.

But maybe it was just a misunderstanding "oh, I thought you said I needed to stay erected....now elected...that is something different."

    The first quotation is mine.

The second is not and I will request that you amend your post to attribute those remarks to whomever made them.

The hypocrisy of his actions is appalling.
But again why does hypocrisy make it worse? Annoying yes. Irritating yes. Affects how we judge a person's moral center, yes.

But the effect of an action is the same regardless of whether we are hypocritical about it or not. Yes?

    You sure?

The issue here is not simply Gore's hypocrisy; it's a question of credibility. If he genuinely believes the apocalyptic vision he has put forth and calls for radical changes in the way other people live, why hasn't he made any radical change in his life? Giving up the zinc mine or one of his homes is not asking much, given that he wants the rest of us to radically change our lives.

Peter Schweizer is a research fellow at the Hoover Institution and author of Do As I Say (Not As I Do): Profiles in Liberal Hypocrisy.

(Disclaimer: I don't pretend to claim that Schweizer is an unbiased source. But I will say you'll be very hard put to discredit the claims he makes her
What? You POSTED an article that explained your position on Gore and his hypocrisy! I will not remove your explanation for why you don't like hypocrites.

I believe we need morals tests instead of drug tests.

Okay, I did post that. Sorry. It was Schweizer's words, however, and not mine which is why I did not recognize them as something I said. But even Schweizer was looking past the hypocrisy to the greater principle involved which is my whole point. Hypocrisy is criticizable on its own merit, but it has nothing to do with the material effect that the actions of the hypocrite has on others.

That is what Liberals are doing to Conservatives in this case. Libs are making Cons recognize that they have given themselves impossible standards of morality that many of the right wing leaders can't live by. If Conservative representatives can't live up to the unreachable morality they preach, why should the rest of us? It's far easier to live by a simple code composed of letting people do as they wish as long as nobody is harmed. Conservatives have taken that to mean that as long as their beliefs aren't questioned and imposed on the rest of society, people can do as they wish. Their train of mind of course is a giant fallacy because we can't be free and at the same time prisoners of a government full of Judeo-Christian situational moralists without a standard for judgement.

Your opinion is noted. Because it is so non sequitur to anything I said, I won't respond at this time. Thanks.

    So?

That's between him, the staffer and his family...no one else's business.

I would not hesitate for one second to vote for this guy - assuming he was the candidate closest to my positions on the issues.

He could have 100 mistresses...none of my business...or the voters.
