It's not that hard to understand.

Conservatives set themselves a higher level of morality.
Conservatives fall very short of that standard.
Conservatives still want everyone else to follow that standard.
Conservatives fail to lead by example.

    Solution:

Conservatives embrace a new level of morality that is flexible enough for everyone to live by and obey or....
Conservatives stop trying to make others follow Conservative standards and focus on their immoral masses...

Please refer to my previous post and repeat it here. Thanks.

Not to say that anyone is perfect, but you greatly exaggerate (intentionally, I think) how far conservatives tend to fall short of their stated values.

In any event, I would rather follow someone who sets high standards, and perhaps falls a little short of them from time to time, than follow someone with very low standards.

If you set your standards so low that everyone can meet them without effort, then you've really set no standards at all.
The five great lies of the Left Wrong:
We can be Godless and free. • “Social justice” through forced redistribution of wealth. • Silencing religious opinions counts as “diversity”. • Freedom without moral and personal responsibility. • Civilization can survive the intentional undermining of the family.

You're being an apologist, now. Conservative leaders (both ideological and political) don't just fall short of their crafted-for-the-podium talking points. They completely violate them at times. Gay page scandals, mistresses, drug use as well as bribe taking and that's just the so-so stuff. Their religious leaders have gay sex scandals, prostitution scandals and occasionally mix those up with some sort of drug abuse case. Your leaders have - for years - lived by the moral code of of "Do as I say, not as I do." and now here you are like a good little foot soldier trying to enforce the unenforceable, excusing the indiscretions of your leaders and, reducing their violations of your moral codes as simply "being a little off". Meanwhile, the rest of us, are simply low on standards - instead of: better at understanding just what standards would benefit a society far more than the hypocritical black and white world you live in.

No spin here. I'm not saying the guy isn't a hypocrite. I'm just asking why some people seem to think religious people have cornered the market on hypocrisy. Is it because they're the only people who have moral standards, or is there another reason? How do non-religious people label themselves, or how should they be labeled if they're to have a pass on morality? Immoral? Amoral? Anal? What?

I think hypocrisy tends to be more jarring with religious conservatives, simply because when they do fail on a personal level, it's such a marked departure from what they preach.
Freedom of speech is not freedom from criticism.

First of all, I am a Christian before I am a liberal. I get so frustrated with many of my Christian brothers and sisters on the right who have this self righteous attitude towards others. It makes us all look like hypocrites. If all of us open that closet a little wider to the public, it will reveal that we are as flawed as any other individual.

    NO !!!

It is okay to set a bar to reach, but you can't go around talking down to others while you breaking that code yourself. Some of the greatest ministers I know preach to others by also expressing that they struggle as well and they understand how hard it is to live right.

How come its never news when family values Democrats do the same things? Does everyone just assume their lying? And are used it, so they dont care? Clinton cheats on his wife, Dems love him. Edwards had a love child, i dont remember anyone caring other than sensationalism.

I'm a conservative. I never set myself to a higher level of morality nor has any conservative I know. It's all about taking care of yourself and keeping government to a minimum.
