The less Americans know about Ukraine[h=1][/h]Americans showing off their geographical knowledge again. I've got to think the people that thought Ukraine was within the US were pranking them though. Still, even the people who were "kind of close" were more likely to favor intervention if they got it wrong.

EDIT: Should I clarify that I don't put this on "all Conservatives," or would it be more fun to watch it twisted into that?

Notice they didn't poll any ultra-Liberal regions of the country?

I'm looking for the original data, but as of yet I cannot find it. Where are you getting this information? The Washington Post article cites no such sample data, and they do not link to their March research.

I was looking at the dots on the map. Am I in error?

What???

I was looking at the dots on the map. Am I in error?

Yes.

The dots are where people who were surveyed think Ukraine is. What kind of moron thinks Ukraine is in the midwestern United States, I don't want to know.

Yup.

Likewise, their sample data indicates that neither major party voter has an advantage in being more correct.

So, do you have any info on who was polled and what parts of the country they live in?

None of us do, except for the insinuation that it was a national sample.

Do you know how representative sampling works?

I have a feeling that doesn't matter at the moment. Let's just wait and see how long this keeps up.

Just makes one feel so proud of our educational system. I would like to see a dot plot of those responding to the questionaire. I believe it would have real meaning.

Do tell.

Yup. I know right where it is. It's right down the road from here. You just can't get there from here. You have to go to New York first.

Or in the middle of Hudson Bay...I think they must have been punking it somehow. I wonder if there's a town in MO called "Ukraine" so some smartass picked that. There were a few instances of this when Putin invaded Georgia:

As I recall there were even a few calls to call in shows from Atlanta saying that they didn't see any tanks yet...

So you really want to go with the theory that it was a bunch of "dumb libbos?"

I dont see the big deal. People are dumb, thats a given. They feel they need to protect others from perceived violence. Thats normal too. It doesnt really matter where they are or what the details are in how you feel about something.

Did I say that? I didn't. Did I?

Re: The less Americans know about Ukraine’s location, the more they want U.S. to inte

I'd like to point out that the map they are using does not have South Sudan on it.

And some others, where is Montenegro?

Maybe, but that doesn't exactly affect the location of Ukraine. I'm even willing to give it to the folks who picked Kazakhstan because it's vaguely the same-ish size and borders Russia to the South. I could see that mistake if you weren't paying close enough attention.

Yes but if you are going to have a "lets show how stupid people are poll" you should make sure they have no come back on you.

You have a point, but.....why are you feeling so defensive?

It doesn't matter, they would have displayed equal ignorance. It's one of the reasons presidents get away with so much. Most people don't pay attention, and the rest are mostly partisan. And education in the US has been on a slide for 40 years. And now, they want to add common core.
