Why is that? Is beating a kid because you think they're gay worse than beating them because they're crying or left a cookie on the table or asked a question when you were watching TV?

You are mistaking the riverbed for the river. Mental illness is the underlying condition through which the thoughts flow, not the other way around. If this woman is mentally ill (and I'm sure she is), nobody's homophobia was the cause of anything.

Your sentiment is the chief symptom of this nation's ills. It is the puss in the putrid boil festering in minds all across the country. You really should get it looked at.

It does matter, maybe not as to the time she has to serve but it does matter because insane opinions like "I can see my 4 year old child is gay because of how he/she walks talks" should be stamped out and should be a warning sign that the animosity towards homosexuality rather than acceptance is still a problem around the world.

I sleep very good, thank you. What is amazing is the outrage for what is not that outrageous at all. Just because I can understand that a parent can snap due to continues crying of a child when they are stressed/loss of sleep etc. does not imply that I agree or condone or even excuse a parent murdering a child because they snap. The end result is just as horrible and tragic especially because in case of a stressed/over taxed parent, there could have been a chance to help them and save the child. I can understand a lot of things even if I do not condone or excuse it. I can understand that the police at times shoot innocent unarmed people, but that does not mean that we as a society should immediately accept, excuse or condone it.

I do not condone murder of any type but the reason for that murder can be something that a person can at least "understand" up to a point (even if it is a stretch of your imagination) but murdering your kid because it walks and talks like a gay is outside the widest and most extreme stretch of my imagination.

As I told apdst, it adds to the awfulness of it. Yes, if you told me about a mother killing her child and added nothing else, I would still agree that the crime was utterly horrific. On a scale of one to ten, that rates a ten. Her being a homophobe rates as, oh, I don't know, a three I guess. So total horrific points? Thirteen.

Would it be worse if she beat the kid to death for being noisy?
Would it be worse if she beat the kid to death because she thought he was possessed by the devil?
Would it be worse if she beat the kid to death because she hates Mondays?
Would it be worse if she beat the kid to death for spilling milk?
Would it be worse if she beat the kid to death for being left handed?

What makes "because she thought he was gay" any worse than that stuff? What the hell makes "gay" more important than any of that other stuff? Y'all keep trying to elevate "gay" to a position in society that's requires special treatment and a higher level of outrage when that treatment isn't given.

I'm sick of it.

On one hand you want equality for gays and on the other you want some kind of special treatment. No wonder you're always outraged. There's no way to reconcile those two things so you're never going to get what you want.

Look, believe it or not, I actually get what you're saying: there's always going to be some crappy motive for committing a horrible crime. I get it. But I don't see how you can deny that the motive just adds to the breadth of the crime.

Look at it like this. Someone hijacks a plane and crashes it in to a city, killing 3000 people. Someone hijacks a plane and crashes it in to a city, killing 3000 people....for Allah. Are you really going to tell me that that qualifier didn't make it worse?

If it was an act of a maniac then we respond one way. If it was the act of an organized group trying to inflict harm on us we react a different way.

While there may be some people out there that dislike - or even hate - gays there isn't some massive conspiracy to kill them all off or enslave them or anything else.

Can you see how this statement actually supports my position? If you have an isolated incident it's a tragedy, if you have a motive then it could feasibly be an ongoing threat (though I hope that mothers killing their children over being gays would be a very low repeating occurrence). If somebody crashes a plane into a populated area because he's sick in the head, as awful as that is it's a one time deal. But add to that a delusional motivation and you have repeating occurrences of one degree or another. See?

Repression can take many forms and levels. It doesn't require the extreme of murder and enslavement to live up to the standard of repression.

no you made a claim so I am asking for proof....you make a claim it is up to you to prove it. You see I know there have been about 3 reports of this happening. You made it sound like an epidemic.
