I would lean towards believing them, though an investigation is needed for disciplinary action. Also why does it matter whether or not they are telling the truth? In your opinion, terrorizing children is always justified as long as you have a badge.

But we don't have sovereign immunity. "The state" (in this example, cops and judges) are routinely prosecuted for wrongdoing.

One of our biggest issues is that we let people be cops who have no business being cops.

He can see 3 black grandmothers sitting by the tree or 3 young black males in the tree with axes or machetes. He's going to treat the situations differently.
... So what you're saying is that 11 year old black kids... don't have a right to use the same tools used by 11 year olds around the country... without looking suspicious to cops? Lol.

    Can anybody say "potential ambush"?

Sorry, I am not sure what to believe here, because there really is little information. But I am not seeing anything obviously wrong so far.

The same could be said about any profession, including Doctors. There is no easly solution to this as the people in that say, 2% do not always manifest themselves in blatant ways.

He was responding to a vandalism complaint. Maybe that's where his head was. Did he point it at them and threaten them with it? I've had an officer unholster his weapon on me. Drew his gun and held it down at his side until he understood what was happening. I didn't think much about it. 'Course to a kid, I'd imagine it'd be scary, exciting and a good story to tell.

I'd also remind people that young kids have guns in some neighborhoods.

Long and short of it is that, without video evidence to see exactly what happened, it's hard to crucify the cop.
I don't want to judge the case without all the facts...but the photo suggests that it may have been because he's a black kid, who are more likely to stopped by police, more likely to be abused, more likely to be shot, more likely to be arrested, and more likely to get a stiffer sentence.
