Entirely possible, but again, this is more on the DA than the judge. She'd have had no wiggle room if the original charges hadn't been modified downward by the DA.

Given the fall out, it more likely the judge is a liberal do gooder, who thinks counseling and group therapy will help sort out his perverted ways. No doubt whatsoever. Happens all the time.

You take the word of a child that may have been coached by her mother... It wouldn't be the first time such separations were engineered this way for better payouts and/or to get the man out of the picture.

The child's word is all they have. The plea bargain ended what would have otherwise been drawn out for mouths. To state as fact he is a rapist, is rather short sighted. Decades back, such cases were prosecuted more often until they found the horror the child felt after realizing they put their father in jail by saying what mommy told them to say.

He may or may not be guilty, and we will never really know. The damage is either dine or not to the child, but if the child is used for an improper conviction, even proper conviction...

Children often never get over such a thing.

Like in the Affluenza case, money for sure and lineage does count. Fact is this guy lives on a trust fund and has two rather expensive homes, one reported to have cost him 1.8 million. The other in an exclusive part of Rehobeth Beach. I'd suggest this guy is a double dipper in wealth, both sides of his family are incredibly rich.

I'd opine, rather than whine over if this scumbag should be called a 1% percenter or not, take a bit of the CON advice and focus on the fact he is a scumbag with REALLY nice homes. :peace

Well, since other threads have provided links that indicate he does indeed have nice homes, I've concluded, in the spirit of Huff Po article, that given what he has done, it's clear the scumbag is a 99 percenter who got lucky at birth.

Of course you can generalize. If you can't the odds would be 50-50, but I don't know anyone who would take that bet. I think you meant I can't say with certainty that in this case he got probation because of his wealth, and that's true enough. But I know what a good defense can do, and it's create the kind of doubt for prosecutors that they agree to plead down to lesser charges than risk losing at trial. It's why those top legal guys get the big bucks, and from what I've seen they often earn it. That kind of defense simply isn't available to working class people.

You can't generalize unless you can show a pattern of rich men getting away with molesting their daughters. This is one case.

I can show you other cases of rich men not getting away with crimes, and I can show you other cases of poor men getting away with child molestation.

The focus here should be on the judge and the others involved.

So what you are REALLY saying is the Huff Po article got it right, just didn't show you all the math it took to arrive at 1%... :)

The point is, it doesn't matter if he is a 1% or not. He's a piece of crap, and the judge is made of the same stuff. Geeze, who knows who owns the properties he lives in. Who knows how much he makes. Who knows who is paying for his legal defense.

The fact this guy wasn't one of the 47% Willard referred to but from an extremely wealthy family was NOT ignored. The fact his is listed as the owner of record of a 1.8 million dollar home and lists his other residence as a home in the more exclusive part of Rehobeth Beach was NOT ignored.

What is also a fact is you wish for his family connections and wealth to be ignored and are constantly casting about for straws to grasp... :2wave:
