WIKILEAKS: U.S. Fought To Lower Minimum Wage In Haiti So Hanes And Levis Would Stay C

Re: WIKILEAKS: U.S. Fought To Lower Minimum Wage In Haiti So Hanes And Levis Would St

Man. That doesnt sound like the free market conservatives usually uphold! But hey, thanks for proving my point that we are ran by corporations and that the US gov when it comes to foreign policy, really only cares about corporate interests! :lamo

I never said that, nor implied that. You seem incapable of discussing this with any real grasp of the big picture. It's small "gotcha" and weak one liners with you.

I'll try one last time, but this really isn't for your benefit you're a true believer...

Governments, make decisions on what affects their country, businesses in their country and the people that rely on them push the issue. It's not "CORPERATIONS RULE LOL!" that's childish and if that's all you've got well... that's all you've got.

An example:
Justine Greening, Secretary of State for the Department for International Development (DFID), will set out her plans on Monday for removing barriers to trade and helping UK businesses join the 'push’ for development in selected countries.
In a speech at the London Stock Exchange (LSE), Ms Greening will say that she wants to work across Government - bringing in the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and the Foreign Office - and with business to drive economic growth in developing countries.
As part of her speech, she will outline plans to undertake a piece of research with the CBI, the business lobby group, to understand what could help business export more successfully.
Government leads exports push in developing countries - Telegraph

Here is the UK Government pushing to help it's business in other countries.

what you are doing is taking a situation where the US Government is acting to help US Business keep costs low to stay competative in a global market and turning it into some bizarre class warfare fight.

Bizarre because this isn't unusual behavior, it's par of the course. You just see a political opening to claim the US Government is acting on behalf of "EVIL RICH" people to keep themselves rich and poor people poor. This is sadly common affection for those like you, who live in a fantasy world of class warfare and if only... the world would be better" It's quite disgusting really.

Quick check. The link you provided is about trade barriers. The original post is not about trade, since we already have trade relationships with Haiti. Its about the US government using services such as the state department to put pressure on the Haitian government. This was not some trade agreements, this was Hanes requesting a direct service from the State Department to put pressure on the Haitian government at their will and the US government followed Hanes' orders.

You never answered the question. Does this justify?

It's not about justification, it's about how the free market works.

Re: WIKILEAKS: U.S. Fought To Lower Minimum Wage In Haiti So Hanes And Levis Would St

Yes, how the free market works in a moral cesspool of public policy.

If you can live amidst injustice without anger, you might be immoral.

Re: WIKILEAKS: U.S. Fought To Lower Minimum Wage In Haiti So Hanes And Levis Would St

It's not about justification, it's about how the free market works.

The "free market" requires governments to intervene to pressure other governments in keeping wages low for personal gain? ****... That doesnt sound free at all.. It sounds totalitarian..

Waht, the state dept has a duty to see to the interest of US companies. If their cost go up, that hurts these businesses. HELLO, people in the US have stock in said companies, there is more here then then CEO's paycheck. Government's tend to work like that, for various reasons. Something few in this thread wish to address.

It's nice you acknowledge that the USA/CIA work for USA CORPORATIONS overseas, instead of for the benefit of the lowly taxpayers and voters of this great Nation. CORPORATIONS do what is good for money, and that usually excludes people's needs and moral guidelines for mutual benefit. The general population of the USA would like the gov't to treat other Nations just like we treat our children. Honor, dignity, prosperity, and such and not CORPORATE greed, corruption, collusion, and if it were for the general welfare, the gov't would have bragging rights, but secrecy is the modus operandi, so there are no bragging rights.. Truly, just a lot of shame.

Re: WIKILEAKS: U.S. Fought To Lower Minimum Wage In Haiti So Hanes And Levis Would St

Getting involved in yet another conflict that does not concern us. Yet again, we are screwing everything up in the name of corporate profit and beneficial gain on behalf of the government officials that thought this would be a good idea...

Smh.

Re: WIKILEAKS: U.S. Fought To Lower Minimum Wage In Haiti So Hanes And Levis Would St

Without jobs, there is no economic growth. Haiti desperately needs jobs and if it is the choice between low paying jobs or no jobs at all, I think they would prefer the low wage jobs. Almost every emerging country starts out with low paying jobs to attract business. Today many of those same emerging countries economies are now enjoying ecomonic growth that is outpacing the US....so much so they are buying US debt. One could say the US works for them now.

So the options are: Abject Poverty or wage slavery? Lol.

You really don't live in the same reality as all of us do you? You rail against corperate greed... who provides your internet? Your PC? You TV? Car, food, clothing?

Greedy corporations whom you gladly hand your money over too.

Yes, it's the difference between going hungry and a steady income.

There is no other option of wages being raised and jobs still around?

my simple question is this..... why are people upset, if the u.s. gets involved in the affairs of other nations, ..say this one of Haiti, however do not get upset, when the u.s. gets involved on other matters of nations...... which are not a power of the federal government...IE ...senator McCain in the Ukraine

What do you mean? I am upset with people such as McCain wanting to get involved in other matters such as McCain wanting the US to get involved in Ukraine and Syria.

i quoted you by error, it was a general question to some, who complain about one thing, but not another.

American Apparel proves that a well-run company can produce clothing competitively- priced and pay honest wages.

American Apparel - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Any company that employs third-world sweat-shop labour and pays less than a dollar an hour is stealing from the poorest people in the world. There's no way anyone with a working conscience can justify it.

Thats the point, there aren't a lot of options in a poor country like Haiti. So if you chase away the few manufacturers that provide jobs you've basically guarenteed the poor will stay poor and hungry...as opposed to earning a steady income that would allow them to send their kids to school or afford better food or buy a cow or whatever.

The poor know they have few options and are grateful for the few they do have.....take that away and they've got nothing.

Yes, it's the difference between going hungry and a steady income.

Actually, it's difference between paying 18 dollars per t-shirt instead of $15. Most wage slaves don't make enough money to actually be correctly fed or have a steady income.

You do have a twisted view, and regardless of all your precautions, things are as they are anyway; products built in China cheaper in spite of minimum wages here.

The USA government shouldn't try to protect US entities and interests overseas? Really?

Exactly right.

Or the difference between making a profit of $2 per shirt, or $1.50 per shirt.

Re: WIKILEAKS: U.S. Fought To Lower Minimum Wage In Haiti So Hanes And Levis Would St

Heres the thing. You want higher wsges to make ppls lives better. As if that higher wage doesnt come with a cost. It does. You dont care if someone "rich" is harmed as long as the little guy gets what hes owed! That is very short sighted, and causes serious problems for everyone.

Taking money away from the rich that they don't need and "can't" use (1) doesn't harm them and (2) improves the economy.

That's like saying taking land away from a feudal lord and reassigning it to merchants and engineers is bad.

Higher wages and more jobs draws people deeper into the economy, but "people" aren't something corporations can afford to invest in beyond the most practical degree because there's an uncertain return on the investment.

That is, there's no guarantee paying someone a higher wage or creating a job will benefit the corporation that does it specifically. Ford could be reasonably sure that employees would want to buy cars and Costco has reason to be confident their employees will buy their groceries from them, but in general there's no guarantee that increasing wages will have a return because you are dumping money out into the general economy, where it could benefit anyone, including your rivals.

The arrogance of your statement is astounding.

I see, so directed wealth transfer is what you want? Is that what you are saying?

Why shouldn't business have to fun unemployment compensation through general taxes?
