Rush Limbaugh selection in children’s book competition causes a stir

Well, it's a children's book, not a great work of social import. That and he equated himself with Paul Revere.

Tell you what, when Chris Matthews writes a childrens book and names the main character Chris Revere, let me know.

If you have noticed, I have not taken any shots based upon any political persuasion.

Rush is just a moron, and blind followers of morons who espouse their bull**** as 'works' are sad sheep-like robots who regurgitate without thought.

Funny to see who all is defending Rush, really scraping the bottom of the barrel of this forum, and I don't think its a coincidence.

I've been listening to his shows every so often in the car, now I know where these people get their strawmen, its verbatim.

I'm not trashing his book, I'm trashing Rush and the people who listen to him.

I am curious though if the book has right-wing propaganda littered throughout it, I would be shocked if it didn't.

Translation: I haven't read his books, only listened to a snippet or two of his show and whatever colbert tells me to think about the guy!

See the truth is, yeah he's out to make money. And he's doing so hand over fist. He's doing what he loves and isn't ashamed about it. He also believes everyone has the potential, and we need to harness our own strength not rely on others to get ahead in life.

But you don't know this, because you have never listened to him.

The thread isn't about Rush or the people who listen to him. The thread topic is Rush's book and how it has been received in the literary world. The best way to know what is in a book is to read a good impartial review about it or, better yet, read the book. Ernest Hemingway was a hopeless alcoholic but he wrote some really great books in spite of that. Herman Melville failed to succeed at pretty much everything he tried, but he also produced some great literature that makes it on approved or even required reading lists all over the world. History is filled with the truth that a great many flawed people, some who overcame adversity, weaknesses, massive failures, and some who did not, who accomplished great things.

Now we can either consider Rush's books on the merits of those books, or dishonestly hold him to a higher standard than we would other famous people.

I wonder which choice most on this thread will make?
 
For instance, the first positive review of Rush's book on Amazon is this:

Forget everything you think you know about Rush Limbaugh, read the book with an open mind, and you may be surprised at how quickly you get through this entertaining time-travel story!

It's primarily aimed at older kids, but can be enjoyed by anyone of any age. In fact, while reading it this morning I was reminded of the "Danny Dunn" books which I enjoyed back in the '60s and '70s, where Danny and his friends, helped by the Professor, traveled in time and/or space and learned a lot about science and history. I can easily see "Rush Revere" becoming a series that will evoke similar fond memories among today's kids.

The basic premise of the story is that "Rush Revere" (the character depicted on the side of Limbaugh's "Two if by Tea" bottles) is a substitute history teacher who has a talking horse "Liberty" (a very amusing character!). Rush and Liberty travel back into time and use a Smartphone to capture live videos of historical events as they happen, which they show their students as they happen. In this book, it's all about the Pilgrims and Puritans, and how/why they embarked on the Mayflower to the New World.

Please note that this is NOT a "polemic" book full of "conservative right-wing propaganda" (for those who think of Rush's show that way - I don't, but I know some do!). Any facts included which you may not have heard of can easily be verified as correct. So far I haven't found any "clunkers".

There are also lots of maps, photos and illustrations to help you figure out where the characters are and what they're up to.

Overall, as a former substitute teacher myself, I highly recommend this book for kids, teachers, parents - and anyone who loves a good historical time-travel story!

Maybe you need to read them and learn something.

His Rush Revere and the Brave Pilgrims... got 4.8 stars out of 5 on amazon.com with over 2000 reviews. Sounds like something worth looking into for the kids. I'm surprised it didn't get a lot of negative ratings based on all the pre-conceived notions people have of the author, politics usually drags everything through the mud regardless of whether or not it's deserving of it.
