Putin: "If you don't stop interfering in Crimea, I'll give Iran S-400 missiles and we'll see how Israel copes with them."

Congress: "As we said before, the sanctions against Russia are wholly unjustified and must be cancelled immediately. Russia is a free and prosperous democracy, and Putin is a great man."
Our response should be to arm former Eastern Bloc and Southern Bloc countries with nuclear weapons - plus 100,000 sniper rifles - and we'll see how well Russia copes with them. Pull out of UN forces in Bosnia and Kosovo too.

Most specifically, give Ukraine a couple dozen nuclear bombs and delivery systems are our apology for not backing up our deal if they gave up theirs.

And Russia has more to fear from Iran having nuclear weapons than we do in the long run.

But it's all words. Russia getting Crimea was a deal already made with the USA and West before it happened.

They might cut off access to their vodka and stop providing rides to the space station.

We have no reason to care about Syria and there is no longer any deal to make with Iran - since it was just proven there is no such thing as any nuclear de-proliferation deal or treaty to make that isn't just a lie and trickery. Iran should pursue nuclear weapons ASAP unless they are just fools.

That is what Crimea just proved. Any country that doesn't not seek and keep nuclear weapons is failing in its national defense duty to its citizens.

Its all just diversionary noise. Russia would not have done this without USA consent.

The USA could stomp all over Russia and Russia knows it. Arm former USSR Eastern and Southern Bloc to the teeth, put the Iron curtain back up - this time without their captured Bloc countries, and shove Russia into being a minor 2nd tier country.

But why do that? Let Russia have Crimea and let Russia keep the Muslims in check there - plus now can extort submission of Muslims in Ukraine too.

Russia can no more use its nukes than we can use ours, so all that talk and threat is just nothing.

The USA, UK, Russia and China are dividing up the world between us. The only change is that China is now in the game.

Putin is expected to release his retaliation list as early as Tuesday and while the final list is still being crafted, it will include top Obama administration officials and high profile U.S. senators, in an effort to roughly mirror the U.S. sanctions against Russian officials and lawmakers, according to diplomatic sources. At the top of the list in Congress is Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin, who recently co-authored a resolution criticizing Russia’s invasion of Crimea.

Durbin’s inclusion on Putin’s list would mirror Obama’s naming of Valentina Matvienko, the head of the upper chamber of the Russian Duma. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell are not expected to be on the Russian sanctions list.

Sen. John McCain, who traveled to Kiev last weekend to meet with Ukrainian leaders, told The Daily Beast that he expects to be on the list and is happy about it.

“You think I’m not going to be on it?” McCain said. “I would be honored to be on that list.”

McCain said he would not be impacted financially by being subject to a visa ban and asset freeze in the Russian Federation.

“I guess I’m going to have to try to withdraw my money from my secret account in St. Petersburg,” he joked.

Other names that could be on the Russian sanctions list, although not confirmed, include Sens. Robert Menendez (D-NJ) and Bob Corker (R-TN), the leaders of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee who are leading the sanctions drive in the Senate, and Victoria Nuland, the Assistant Secretary of State for Europe, who has been heavily involved in working with the Ukrainian opposition that ousted the Yanokovich government.

One U.S. official who can rest easy is White House Press Secretary Jay Carney, who will not be on Putin’s sanctions list. Carney is rumored to be lobbying to replace former Ambassador Mike McFaul as the next U.S. Ambassador to Moscow, who will also not be on the list.....snip~

While Johnny Quest makes his joke about pulling money out of his secret account. Do you think Johnny here figured out that's what the Russians have been saying all along ever since we tried the very first one. Now What are they going to do in catching a Diplomat traveling on a travel ban? Did any think Diplomatic Immunity still didn't apply?

Yeah and Durbin.....not only put forth a resolution in the House. He has been running around and telling all that Putin is like Stalin and he will go after other Countries. Wonder How Dapper Dick feels about What Gorbachev said with his support for Putin.? What say ye.....for the Play we started with. Will it go round in circles?
So what you're saying is... No more vodka?

I just wonder if those calls allowed them to see each other. As I wondered if Putin just put his end down until Obama was done talking.

Interesting to note the Russians aren't thinking of putting Boehner and McConnell on their list.

Putin, I don't think would do that. he would listen intently looking for clues to weaknesses...

Obama is a talker, he sees himself as winning by convincing others. It works with an ignorant electorate, but not on the world stage.

Putin has decades experience in cut throat politics, Obama has had five years of learning on the job, and he does not learn from mistakes. according to his own supporters practically every screw up is a "Bush did it too' moment.

    Think again.

China sees the US as its number one threat, while Russia is to them what Canada is to you. they have already fired the shot across the bow by making a point of abstaining from the UN vote.

They may appear to be neutral but China gains nothing by siding with the US

I can't add anything to what Krauthammer said, other that Putin retaliated by putting sanctions on all our senators so that all of the vast wealth they have in Russia will be confiscated. Putin also called Obama a joker but we already knew that.
