Fred Phelps, the founder of the Westboro Baptist Church, known for protesting the funerals of members of the military, is "on the edge of death," according to his estranged son.Nate Phelps wrote on Facebook Saturday night that his father was not doing well.

"I've learned that my father, Fred Phelps, Sr., pastor of the 'God Hates Fags' Westboro Baptist Church, was ex-communicated from the 'church' back in August of 2013. He is now on the edge of death at Midland Hospice house in Topeka, Kansas," he wrote. "I'm not sure how I feel about this. Terribly ironic that his devotion to his god ends this way. Destroyed by the monster he made."
Nate Phelps then confirmed to Patheos that he had learned from multiple ex-communicated members of the church that his father was not doing well.

Report: Westboro Baptist Church Founder 'On The Edge Of Death'

I would love to see about 100,000 soldiers show up to protest his funeral.

Yeah! and all take turns pissing on his grave.

I would love to see about 100,000 soldiers show up to protest his funeral.

See to me this is the incorrect approach.

The ultimate expression of defiance against who he was is to do the opposite of what he did.

I think picket his funeral absolutely respectfully, no signs, not a sound, no branded T shirts with slogans.

George Takei said:
I take no solace or joy in this man's passing. We will not dance upon his grave, nor stand vigil at his funeral holding "God Hates Freds" signs, tempting as it may be.

He was a tormented soul, who tormented so many. Hate never wins out in the end. It instead goes always to its lonely, dusty end.

I think that says it well.

Better to just ignore him.

Phelps and his successors are media whores. I believe his daughter is poised to lead the group after his death. This lady loves to be on TV debating and defending her twisted views.

The best harm you can do to them is to deny them any attention.

Oh THAT guy. I didn't even know who this was until I read it.

god hates Fred Phelps? ;)

That would be really stupid. That would mean Phelps wins.

Better would be not not react in any way to his death. He brought nothing positive into the world, let him go out the same way.

:agree: He won't be missed, so why waste time giving him any attention at all? I hope the family buries him on their own land, since people might decide a payback is warranted for his hatred of those who gave their lives defending his freedom to act like the worm he was.

I believe I read he was going to be cremated. I imagine he anticipated his funeral being picketed.

I will add that of all the counter protests thrown at these scummy people two stand out as admiriable to me.

One is the patriot riders which is merely a loose coalition of Harely riders who occasionally intervened at funerals. They simply parked between the Westboron slime and the funeral party. They then respectfully held up US flags and reved their engines everytime the Phelps crowd tried to speak. This basically drowned them out and prevented the families at the funeral from hearing or seeing the westboro people.

The other one was one you can find on a google search. It seems failry attractive female musician in a punk rock band masturbated on the lawn of the Westboro Kansas church. Totally naked and they filmed it and somehow got away with it.

Wierd but I kind of admire it. Plus it's a hot video.

Gay Hating Democrat Fred Phelps is Dead

Fred Phelps is dead. I met Phelps once during the 1990 Kansas governor race. What many do not know about Phelps is that he was active in Civil Right law in the state of Kansas during the 1960’s and he was a registered Democrat; a man of the left only he was a leftist who hated gays. During the 1990 election, the economy and taxes were the main issues as many Kansans saw their tax bill go up as result of changes in property taxes based on new constitutional amendments passed years earlier and just then taking effect.

Phelps, who two years earlier was an Al Gore delegate to the Democratic convention, was not the infamous gay hater then. But even in that campaign; he gave an interview in which he talked of the “cabal of homosexual activity in Topeka.” It was obviousthat his last crusade would be a jihad against gays.

I would never accuse the left of being anti gay. I'm not surprised however that the left produced a man who thought he had the authority to try to dictate to others how they should live. Generally my opinion of Phelps was that he was insane, but that's the opinion I hold of many of the far left authoritarians and the far right fundamentalists.

As much as Phelps is reviled, it's great that he is allowed the freedom to express himself and his beliefs.

If he has no regrets, he will die at peace.

Have people forgotten how the troops returning from Vietnam were treated by both the American public and the government?
