HANNOVER, Germany: Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak made a startling revelation voicing his support for National Security Agency (NSA) contractor-turned-whistleblower Edward Snowden at an interactive session held at Europe's largest technology conference - Cebit 2014 - in Hannover in Germany.

"He is a hero to me, but he may be a traitor to other people and I understand the reasons for them to think that way. I believe that Snowden believed, like I do, that the US has a right to freedom. He had the guts to and courage to sacrifice his life for a principle," said Wozniak, at an interactive session moderated by Brent Goff, main news anchor for Deutsche Welle here on Thursday.

Snowden is hiding in Russia as a fugitive from US law and charged with espionage for leaking documents related to the US surveillance.

Wozniak, a strong believer in freedom and the spirit of the Constitution, felt Snowden should be allowed to return to his country. "He has been vindicated and there have been illegal judgements and the NSA, and by the way, we have other three letter agencies like the CIA and FBI, and they are probably doing similar things. They cover up those loopholes, and they are in violation with our Constitution," he said.

Wozniak's expressed concerns over the long-drawn process of the judicial system and laws which are inconsistent with the spirit of the Constitution. "A lot of politicians pass law after law that go against the Constitution and in court, when people like Snowden come up, they say that the government has acted according to the law. Ten years later, the Supreme Court says that those laws are unconstitutional. It's a long, long process to get justice," he added.

I agree with Mr. Wozniak. It is clear that our government is doing many unconstitutional things, and our politicians and courts just tend to ignore them. What Snowden did was necessary and he is a hero for that.

I don't have heroes.

But if I did, based on what I know of Snowden, he would probably be one of them.

Sacrificing your freedom and safety to help to try and make the world a better place...I find that EXTREMELY cool.

This is breaking news?

Especially when you can run to a country like Russia with its long tradition of freedom of the press, speech, and liberty. And a country that would obviously have no interest in the military secrets Snowden took with him.

They should stand his hero ass in front of a firing squad. just sayin

And just which country could he have 'run to' that would have semi-guaranteed his safety?

As for secrets he may have given to the Russians?

Where is your link to unbiased factual proof that he gave even ONE military secret to the Russians?

Most rightwing anti-freedom ******s would pee their pants before they could aim at him. just sayin'

I don't consider him a hero. But I do admire him for his standing up for what he believes to be right. If I had been in his position I don't know if I would have done the same thing as him, but would like to think I would.

I would just say Edward Snowden is a great man, and leave it at that.

He probably ran to Russia because it would stupid to run to a country that'll deport him.

The NSA are those ones wiping their fecal covered asses with the 4th amendment and Snowden is the one who should face the firing squad? I think you have things mixed up.

He's no hero nor is he a great man. I view him as a whistleblower rather than a turncoat. The only source we have for claims that he gave military secrets to Russia is our government. I believe very little of what our government says and nothing when it involves its reputation.

What this low level punk did was illegal and treasonous. He has compromised our security and put our troops at risk. And he is your hero?

please share with us the ways his disclosures have placed our nation's security at risk, and put our troops in harm's way. you are so adamant about it, you must have such documentation. please share it with us

were you the one that posted a thread about turning in your family over a pack of smokes and a couple cans of beer?

The most treasonous scum **** within our borders are the camoflauged ******s who betray their country by fighting for their gummint.

He has compromised our security

Um, "our"? ? Speak for yourself. Don't lump the whole country in w/your anti-freedom paradise.

and put our troops at risk

Life 101 for ya: they are not our troops; they're the US gummint's troops, and the US gummint doesn't work for us.

He may not be in Russia anymore. W/a shiny new Russian passport w/a different name on it, he can go anywhere he wants. He may even have a nice fingerprint glove made for him.

Where is your proof that he didn't? I also wonder what happened to the guy who gave him his access to the info. Haven't heard a thing or maybe I am just uninformed.

this appears to be a ripe opportunity for one of us to learn something
please explain how one would prove a negative; in this instance, how one would prove snowden did not give secrets to the bad guys
i look forward to learning that methodology

What he did was illegal. I don't see any treason in it and I have seen no evidence that he compromised national security. Do you know something the rest of us don't know?

I think Snowden is responsible for the Congressional review of Intelligence Agencies spying that is going on at this time. I don't uderstand why the Intelligence Agency leaders that lie to Congress, specifically Clapper and McCullogh, are not indicted for perjury. He has done us all a great service and should get a medal.

I am a proud veteran of the US Army. You are the type who spits on OUR troops when the come back from war. We are a government of the people. So yes they are OUR TROOPS! bait much? it's against forum policy.

No problem. Try google search next time. Many articles about this subject. The DoD has concluded that Eddy "the traitor" Snowden has put our troops at risk. This POS needs to swing from a rope for putting our troops at risk.

The DoD will not elaborate on the damage done to our security or the risk to our troops. They will confirm such a risk is real. There is a reason they do not elaborate. Think about it, they would risk further damage to our security and safety.
