The DoD will not elaborate on the damage done to our security or the risk to our troops. They will confirm such a risk is real. There is a reason they do not elaborate. Think about it, they would risk further damage to our security and safety.
If the 'Snowden is a hero' crowd were to believe this, it would do serious damage to their core beliefs. Therefore they choose not to believe it. I'm amazed at the stupidity of people.

He'll probably receive one. I'm guessing 'The Order of Lenin'. He would get the 'Hero of the Soviet Union' medal, but since they don't exist any more, he'll get the Russian equivalent.

There are a whole lot of countries that wouldn't deport him. France is one that comes to mind. We can't even get the child raper Polanski from them.

Snowden is an extraordinary man. Like or dislike his choices, respect that he made them, that he put it all on the line for his beliefs.

How many of the rest of us can make the same claim?

on what planet? ?. If it isn't already brutally obvious, if the US did have a government by the people, the gummint's military wouldn't be at war in Afghanistan--because the people oppose it.

Fortunately, people like Snowden are fighting to make it a govt. by the people.

The only sources you provided are the US govt., the US govt., the US govt.--the same govt. that lied about Iraq WMDs, lied about phone record spying, lied about embassy security, . . .

Next time you quote sources, look up and learn this word. . .

What the NSA did was illegal and treasonous, what those who continue to authorize the NSA spy on Americans was illegal and treasonous. The NSA wiped their fecal covered ass with the 4th amendment. Those in office authorized and continue to authorize the NSA to do that. Last I checked those people make an oath to uphold and or defend the constitution. Last I checked the Constitution is the supreme law of the land, therefore any law that violates it is illegal. Therefore revealing the NSA's treasonous and illegal activities is not illegal. Snowden should be commended not condemned.

He has compromised our security and put our troops at risk.
What exactly did he release that did that? Did he reveal troop locations and movement?

    And he is your hero?
Before Snowden anyone claiming the government is spying on you was dismissed as a tin foil hat wearer. He did a great service.
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"
