What's cooler than a Girl Scout selling cookies?

A business-savvy Girl Scout who sets up shop outside a cannabis clinic to rev up her sales skills.

Thirteen-year-old Girl Scout Danielle Lei did brisk business last Monday selling Dulce de Leches and other flavors outside The Green Cross medical marijuana clinic in San Francisco, Mashable reported.

Danielle was able to sell 117 boxes within two hours outside the cannabis clinic -- 37 more than what she sold within the same time frame at a local Safeway the next day, according to Mashable.

The Girl Scouts of Northern California don't have a problem with this business strategy.

Dana Allen, the organization's marketing and communications director, told Mashable that "the mom decided this was a place she was comfortable with her daughter being at."

"We're not telling people where they can and can't go if it's a legitimate business," she said.

Genius or Incorrect?

A teenager selling cookies to potheads with the munchies.
Watch the pot clubs add, "cookie edibles" laced with weed to their menu.

Seriously, is this the right thing for Troop Leaders to approve? Exposing young teens to an intoxicating substance, reserved for medical and adult uses?

Genuis. Especially here in WA where it is legal.

I'm not overly swayed, one way or the other. We were poking smot when I was a teenager and it was easy to get, so I'm not sure it's a big deal?

Genius on the micro level. Dumb on the macro level.

The Girl Scouts are in serious financial trouble and are also facing growing competition from competitors:

My guess is that marketing to pot users as "munchy" sales is going to boost the competitors and hurt the Scouts in the long run.

This is the other angle I was wondering about. The Girl Scouts are self promoted as a wholesome form of activity and learning for teen girls, and I wonder how the perceived effect of combining Marijuana and cookies will impact them?

I wonder if Taco Bell will put out a hit because they don't want the competition against their fourth meal campaign

:p

Ah, you're so morally outraged.....but it doesn't matter

As long as it's legal there's jack**** you can do about it

The establishment is legal, and they were outside the establishment.

I'd say good on her for entrepreneurialship.

how's this worse then selling outside of any place sell alcohol?

You mean where they sell outside Safeway's?

Safeway is mostly a grocery store that happens to include alcohol sales, not exclusively like a liquor store.

I'm also not necessarily against it. I think it's up to the Organization and parents.

Where do I say, I'm morally outraged for posting a question?

That's fine. Like I said, most of my friends were smoking weed in our teens. We considered it to be the least of our offenses...lol

she saw a market and went after that market. although my daughter is in girl scouts and sold 80 boxes in the same time frame outside a grocery store. so she only sold about 30 more boxes.

she was smart.

as for the girl scounts yea they are in trouble mostly due to the person that is leading the organization now. they have made some really bad choices.

I don't see a problem with it. Girl Scouts here in Nevada sell outside grocery stores which carry liquor, beer and wine. What's the difference selling in front of a LEGAL pot store?

No big deal, one way or another. As grip said it's up to the parents and organization and it seems they don't care so why should I.

Does anyone stop Girl Scouts from selling cookies outside of Walmarts, etc. where cigarettes and alcoholic beverages are sold?

If not, what's the problem?

And I did the same, but it wasn't legal back then. I will never admit to ever doing anything illegal other than that. Scouts honor. ;)

Drugs are bad, m'kay, so, if you do drugs, you're bad, m'kay, because drugs are bad.

any 1 else getting hungry could totally go for some of those chocolate covered peanut butter cookies and maybe some thin mints

Better than the half a jar of peanut butter I ate last week :lamo

Objectively, its not worse. Subjectively, its alot worse. In a perfect world, it should not make a difference, but we dont live in a perfect world. As a side note, I would not sell cookies outside of bars either. Grocery stores with alcohol inside?- yes.

I dont think the impact is going to be good- at least not outside the liberal bastions of San Francisco etc. What they shpuld have said is something like: "We encourage parents to use discretiion when selecting venues for sales".

The cookie is crumbling: Girl Scouts face financial troubles, declining membership  - NY Daily News

According to this article they're having a problem with Image and Donations. So maybe the cookie sales at Pot Clubs will improve both?

They're also struggling with a huge deficit from Pensions and the National Office reducing locals, causing many employees to take an early retirement.

Since 2003, the Girl Scouts have undergone what they describe as a "complete transformation" aimed at making their programs and image more relevant to a diverse population of girls and parents. Changes have affected uniforms, handbooks, merit badges, program materials, even the logo and the fine print on the boxes of Girl Scout cookies.

"Our brand, as iconic as it is, was misunderstood — it was dated," Chavez said in an interview in her Manhattan office Friday.

Yet today the Girl Scouts have about 2.2 million youth members, down from more than 2.8 million in 2003. Donations to the national office and local councils plunged to $104 million in 2011 from nearly $148 million in 2007.

The biggest change — implemented from 2006 to 2009 by Chavez' predecessor, Kathy Cloninger — was a realignment that slashed the number of local councils from 312 to 112. It was intended to increase efficiency, but resulted in the departure of many longtime employees and volunteers.

The pension plan had a surplus of more than $150 million in 2007. It now has a deficit of about $347 million, according to GSUSA figures.

The laws against simple usage has been ridiculous. They have these "maximum minimum" penalties that can really burn you for minor amounts. They shot themselves in the foot with those stupid laws.

Sure, I guess anything is possible...
