'Joe The Plumber' Describes His New Union Job

instead of a fish, here is a fishing lesson
see if you can solve your own question:
You seem like the kind of guy who spends a lot of time in doctor's offices. When you look around do you see diploma's on the walls to show the doctor is qualified or do you see licenses?

most states require that if you are a certified plumber that you register with the state. if you are not a licensed certified plumber you can get into major trouble legally if you try and do a plumbing job on your own. if you want to work as a plumber on your own you need to be licensed.

licensed/certified mean the same thing.

you have to have at least a journeyman's license before you can break out on your own. most states require that you register as a licensed plumber though. I know here in FL you have to. they are very strict about it. in fact they are over the top about it. if you get caught doing work without being registered you can be fined and kicked off the job site.

My feeling is that in Florida you cannot get a plumbers license unless you have all the qualifications, is that correct?

that is correct. doing work in Fl as an unlicensed contractor will get you in major trouble.
you have to meet the requirements of a journeyman plumber and you can work own your own, but if you are going to work on your own you have to be registered as a licensed plumber with the state.

we have issues with a lot of unlicensed contractors doing work. their work doesn't meet code and 9/10 they don't carry insurance.
it was a bigger issue after a hurricane goes through you get a ton of roofers that are not licensed roofers. they did shotty work and then disappear after bilking 5 or 10k out of the person and there is nothing the person can do about it.

yep. i take my blind and deaf mother in law quite a bit. what's your point?

and her former doctor was recently suspended from practicing medicine by the state. they did not pull his diploma. they suspended his license to practice medicine

Let's see, you say that a license doesn't make a plumber and yet you argue that without qualifications you can't get a license. (Joe didn't have a license in Ohio, which according to you now means he didn't have the qualifications. You can't make this **** up)

And you wonder why folks suggest you talk in circles?

Would you have heard of Joe the Plumber if it wasn't fr his question period with Obama? Why a thread about someone who has been out of the spotlight for several years? What iis it about Joe the Plumber that attracts you so much?

Try reading the attached article.

In fact I don't know what a Plumbers license is, but I do know what a Plumbers certificate is.

What you don't know is rather clear. Now run along.

License Qualification Process

The Ohio Construction Industry Licensing Board (OCILB) issues State Licenses to Commercial Contractors for the following trades: Electrical, HVAC, Hydronics, Plumbing, and Refrigeration. To receive a state license, an applicant must meet the following requirements:

Be at least 18 years of age.
Be a United States citizen or a legal alien-must provide proof of being a legal alien.
Either have been a tradesperson in the type of licensed trade for which the application is filed for not less than five (5) years immediately prior to the date the application is filed, currently be a registered engineer in this state with three (3) years of business experience in the construction industry in the trade for which the engineer is applying to take the examination, or have other experience acceptable to the appropriate section of the board.
Never have been convicted of a disqualifying offense as defined in S.B. 337.
Pass the examination in the trade.
Carry minimum $500,000 contractor liability coverage.
Pay the applicable fees.
Be advised:
Once you have been approved by the Board, you are required to complete a State and Federal Background Check prior to sitting for the examination.

Right. The qualifications come first and then once that is recognized you are qualified you can get a license to go to work. Hairdressers (for example) need licenses to operate in many areas as well, but that doesn't mean they are good, only that they need a license. Licenses are more like a tax and a way to keep track of the numbers rather than a qualification.

We often rely on word of mouth, reputation, when we make our decisions when hiring workers, including hairdressers and the like. In a national emergency I expect a lot of shoddy work was done and whther these people had licences r not is hard to say. It seems clear though that many of them may not have had the qualifications.

I thought people in this economy took whatever job was offered.

With Obamacare in place, he could become a successful sculptor or painter.

Did you even read your link?? The qualifications come first, then the license.

Obviously he doesn't have the qualification since he didn't bother to get a license. He was working illegally.

"I'm getting ready to buy a company that makes 250 to 280 thousand dollars a year. Your new tax plan's going to tax me more, isn't it?"
what a surprise, 'joe' the 'plumber' never followed thru on that buyout
which was actually a discussion he had in his job interview many years before he encountered Obama
such is the 'veracity' of those in the reich wing
such is the way these lemmings vote against their self interest
