Ron Paul Launches Clemency Petition For Edward Snowden

If there are, I haven't seen any.

You were already linked to two in this very thread.

You've stumbled so much in this thread, I have to assume you're just trolling at this point.

So you're now saying that someone can be a true constitutional scholar and not agree with you? Fantastic lol

Before you jump in and tell me how you agree the Johns, please realize there was another dialogue going on that you had no reason to interrupt.

Here I have to get ready for work. Some basic wiki over the commentary. After all this time and Snowdens actions with other countries. Most are going with traitor.

Sure he is about his own survival.....while going into that mode. He then struck back and is continuing to do so. So its no longer that he just wanted to expose what the NSA was doing to the American people.

Well, this isn't your thread
You're on dp, it's everybody's thread.
you can't pick and choose what parts of the OP you want to exist
OP's are kicked out of their threads all the time.
You should have learned this in your 37 months on dp.
and you can't make me leave the thread
I could care less what you do--since you support a traitor.

Tell that to future americans who will be harmed by Snowden's treason .

I have witnessed incredible idiocy in this thread and I am not the one stumbling.

1-I was told Turley and Hewitt believe NSA spying is Constitutional. I was not linked to either opinion.

2-When I asked for proof, I was linked to an article from Townhall attacking Snowden.

3-I was then told Turley and Hewitt write for Townhall. Ok, so what? That wasn't their article.

I still have not been linked to Turley/Hewitt's opinions on the Constitutionality of the NSA program, or Snowden for that matter.

But I did learn that they write for Townhall. Fantastic.

By OP, I am referring to "original post", which mentions the NSA. You can't tell me not to talk about the NSA. It is part of the thread and has been since the beginning.

Same. Remember that time you implied that no true constitutional scholar would possibly disagree with your opinion? Or that time you ignored Snowden's disclosures to the public about NSA activities against foreign countries?

Why don't you talk about all of the Americans who have been negatively affected overseas by the traitor?
Do you have any idea how much we have been compromised?
This continuation of leeks goes light years beyond letting you know about your phone data.
No go back and focus on your NSA faux outrage .

No, the thread is about a clemency petition for a traitor.
I think I'll stay with the opinion of Boehner and McCain--that Snowden is a traitor .
Speaking of traitors John McCain was meeting with members of Al-Qaeda when he made a surprise visit to Syria. It's amazing how you're comfortable taking the word of people whom meet with terrorists.

However this isn't about them, its about the NSA and their role in our lives going forward. They need to back off and reassess how far they go and that's not going to happen if we don't forcefully fight back. This is our chance to make things right and if we don't we can be assured that government spying on us will become a fact of life. I don't think there is anything American about that.

Government has been spying on us and everyone else forever.
Good thing they were spying on Russia and Cuba when we found their nukes 90 miles from our shores.
Rand Paul wants a "new Republican party", in today's news.
DEM liberals who buy his garbage on drones, NSA, Clinton/Lewinsky are unwittingly part of this "AMASH" coalition .

I'm more comfortable with McCain delicately discussing how to get a peace than I am Snowden.
Pulling out the AQ card when convenient shows how serious you are for the plight of what
Putin/Assad have done in their massacre of women and children,
especially with chemical weapons.

They can spy on other countries all they want, I could care less. It's up to foreign governments to protect their citizens against U.S. spying. It's up to Americans to protect ourselves from our own government's spying.

I do not want a state where they have access to everything we all do at all times because it opens the door to incredible potential for abuse. It is far too much power to put into their hands especially considering the lack of transparency.

The Pauls are going to use this politically, of course. I do not care, I would not vote for them anyway. If we have to work with them to fight this overreach then so be it.

Remind me again what Assad had to do with the World Trade Center getting knocked down? And McCain wasn't "delicately negotiating peace". He was openly pushing for war against Assad and McCain was willing to work with Al-Qaeda to make it happen. That's the behavior of a traitor. And Putin wouldn't even be in the picture if we didn't draw lines in the sand to begin with.

I'm glad Snowden revealed the spying being done by the NSA.

McCain was openly pushing for war against Assad and McCain was willing to work with Al-Qaeda to make it happen.
As were so many other GOP members before Obama adopted their position.
Doesn't it make you puke how most GOPs play politics with foreign policy, like Ron and Rand Paul.
I'm glad Snowden revealed the spying being done by the NSA.
Aren't you glad that snowden continues to give away our state secrets on other countries after the fact and going forward?
Just like telling the Soviets we knew they had nukes in Cuba .

That's the behavior of a traitor..
Tell me again how a decorated Vietnam POW can be a traitor after his continued decades of service to his nation in the Senate.
This is what passes for Libertarian today .

Remind me again what Assad had to do with the World Trade Center getting knocked down?
Do you support A$$AD and PUTIN massacreing children and women with chemical weapons while the GOP was doing hand-stands
over how they felt Putin was winning?
Americans don't feel so good about Putin and $nowden at this time, nor his treatment of his citizens across-the-board .

And McCain wasn't "delicately negotiating peace".
So you were privy to those talks.
He was openly pushing for war against Assad and McCain was willing to work with Al-Qaeda to make it happen..
The USA has worked with some pretty awful people to accomplish an ends in the past.
I suppose we should have fought Stalin also, as well as Hitler .

Sure SB......and any can look Hugh Hewitt.com up to and look at all his articles up over it.

OK. I haven't read the article yet (I will though) but I'll go along with that headline.

I now have to wonder, when he first made this stunning decision, what did he expect? Initially, the big reveal was "the NSA is spying on all of you, thus pooping on your 4th amendment rights and your transparent president has kept his silence". So, what did he expect?

Apparently he thought that he could be forgiven once we saw what an outrage this was. This has been going on for years, a conspiracy with thousands of participants. This had to leak eventually. Funny, because if they had told us and kept reasonable guidelines, we would have accepted this. Hell, we're accepting it now. You think the government is scared of us? We're just units of population to them.

Instead, nobody offered him a safe haven, America is calling for his death and he ended up with our competitors. So, maybe he's pissed off and that's why he's offering stuff up this late in the game. Or maybe it's not true. Maybe there is nothing else. We've been lied to before, and on so many levels.

If I were him, I wouldn't like America anymore. From his POV we haven't appreciated his sacrifice.

As for a vicious circle of cyber spying between the two countries — but that's how espionage works. Then it seems like this won't surprise anybody very much. The BIG reveal was that they spied on us, their very own citizens. I would EXPECT the NSA to spy on other countries - to earn their salaries.

Each distortion and lie needs to be given special treatment.
It's also a plus to limit your post to what folks can see on SPY .

'Former Congressman Ron Paul has launched a petition to attempt to garner clemency for NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden. The "Demand Clemency for Edward Snowden" petition includes the clip below, Paul calls on supporters to sign the petition in an attempt to bring Snowden home to the US safely before his temporary visa in Russia expires in July.

On the heels of his son Rand Paul's lawsuit against the Obama nd the NSA seeking to stop its collection of phone metadata, Ron Paul states "Edward Snowden shocked the world when he exposed the NSA’s illegal and abusive spying program. Instead of applauding him for his bravery and patriotism, the U.S. government labels Snowden a traitor."

By signing this petition, Paul notes on his Channel's website, "you are telling the US government that Mr. Snowden deserves the right to come home without the fear of persecution or imprisonment."'

A worthy move, though I am not sure whether it will work or not. Even if it did, if I were Snowden, I would not return regardless the promises of safety, and instead take the 1 million dollar prize he will no doubt earn from the win of the Noble Prize this year and live well writing and speaking throughout Europe.

where should a citizens loyalty be?

to federal law, or constitutional law?

Odd question, if you're referring to the US Constitution. Federal law must conform to the constitution.

very true.....but some have the ideal federal should be above constitutional.

Meaning.... If you swear to federal law, this some how binds you to be silent if constututional violations are taking place.

People that think the government is allowed to violate the Constitution are are the enemy.

To those whom he worked with.....and to his Country.

So let me get this straight. If your wife were cheating on you, and your best friend came to you and told you he saw her with another man, you would call him a traitor and want his head? Why would you not blame the person who actually betrayed you instead of the one that informed you of that betrayal?

Tell that to future americans who will be harmed by Snowden's treason .

Yep, now that we know the extent the NSA was spying on Americans, we are all in grave danger. That makes sense. Do you have any proof that anyone has been hurt because we know they've been intercepting our emails and phone calls? You're trying to incite a panic that isn't there.

Why don't you talk about all of the Americans who have been negatively affected overseas by the traitor?
Do you have any idea how much we have been compromised?

Why don't you cite some specific cases where Americans overseas have been harmed by Snowden's leaks? I'm trying to understand your reasoning but I can't. What's it like to not give a flying rat's ass what the government does in your name? They can do whatever they want, right?

I'm glad there are some politicians out there that give a **** about the constitution and about protecting our rights. The statists in this thread are so upset that their paternalistic overlords have had their power weakened by 1%, that they're demanding blood.
