Ted Cruz will demand that the Senate come up with 60 votes to raise the debt ceiling, but indicated he won’t delay the vote as D.C. awaits a snowstorm.
The GOP freshman senator from Texas told reporters Tuesday afternoon that he will not allow a clean bill to lift the debt ceiling through the Senate with a bare majority.

“Under no circumstances will I agree to the Senate’s raising the debt ceiling with just 50 votes. I intend to object and force a 60-vote threshold,” Cruz said.

Given that the entire 55-member Democratic caucus is expected to support the clean debt ceiling bill, that means five Republicans would need to join with Democrats to advance the bill to passage. Centrist-minded Republicans like Sens. Mark Kirk of Illinois, Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire and Susan Collins of Maine all said they were undecided on how they will vote.

Cruz said his 60-vote threshold demand shouldn’t irk his Republican colleagues who may feel obligated to swallow a tough vote to vote in favor of a clean debt ceiling lift. Cruz said the GOP should simply hold together and block the legislation that cleared the House on Tuesday afternoon.

Seriously? Ted Cruz... Again? You are on the brink of irrelevancy... Luckily for the vast majority of the GOP they dont wanna be seen next to your side again because basically you are a toxic **** dumb....

Really Obama should just suspend Congress. It is treason to not give him anything he wants anyway.

If Cruz wants to create another shutdown then more power to him. That's what his constituents want.

Theres a limit how much you should be a delegate or trustee. Its common sense. Hes in a safe district anyways.
This is on the brink of lunacy.

What are you talking about? Obama's use of executive orders or what not?

He's in a safe district known as "Texas."

Even if Battleground Texas takes off i suspect Cruz to be perfectly safe.

He's a Senator, his district is the entire state. It's going to be quite some time before he's in trouble.

Thats what i was getting at. As far as it goes the vast majority of Texans are going to vote for this nut case. Battleground Texas is mainly focusing on the Governor race and some districts they think they can get now and slowly pick away later.

The media and press universally report that if Republicans will vote to give Obama 95% of what he wants - and if in return the Senate refuses to past that 95% - then it is the Republicans who have shut everything down. That absolute lie is reported as so much a truism that Congress has become an irrelevancy.

You seem to be confused about the US government. This thread is about the Senate. Obama is not in the Senate.

Retarded straw men are retarded. No one mentioned treason, nor anything else in your post. Why not just post some really stupid over the top rhetoric, who needs reasoned debate...

I mean, is there never, ever going to be an end to raising debt ceilings and debt.

You can't not raise the debt limit. You can alleviate the need for debt limit adjustments by balancing the budget. Unfortunately, balancing the budget is a long-term proposition (the Ryan Plan took 27 years to balance the budget) that requires pain by everyone (including entitlement restructuring and tax increases.... and, we have to stay out of wars).... the problem is, no one is willing to do what it takes to balance the budget.

You mention the Paul Ryan plan.
You saw just how difficult the budget will be to ever balance when Ryan's budget in December was sabotaged by his own party,
Playing politics in bowing to pressure from Veteran's groups on a slight decrease to their COLA.
They would still have gotten an increase in pension, just not as much.
This is the same "low-hanging-fruit" that some states have had to do.

Raising the debt ceiling and increasing the debt are two wholly different things. The only way to be against raising the debt ceiling is if you are for the U.S. being a deadbeat.

If you have to raise the debt ceiling to avoid being a deadbeat, your still doing something wrong!! When observing a timeline of US debt, there are numerous times that administrations paid it down, but it certainly went up and down, and ultimately it took 200 years for us to accumulate 1 trillion dollars of debt. Then Reagan happened (the haha conservative) and in 8 short years that tripled! Bush and Clinton added a couple to it and then Jr. Bush doubled it from 5 to 10 trillion, and it would appear this administration will see a doubling again. Real deadbeats borrow and spend!

No, deadbeats don't pay their bills when they come due.

So let me get this straight. If I max my credit cards and the credit card company doesn't raise my limit, I'm a deadbeat because I won't have money to pay the bills. However, if the credit card company raises my limit and I use it to pay my bills, that is responsible?

They should suspend themselves at this point. Congress is too inept to govern and needs serious structural reforms.

You righties are funny. You seem to worry about debt only when Democrats has the white house. And just to be fair it is the same with democrats.
