'Northern liberal elites treated me worse than the segregated South': America is too sensitive about race says Supreme Court justice Clarence Thomas.

    My comment.

A racist is someone who looks at people and events thru racial eyes. So-called "liberals" who analyze every word, event and statement in racial context are the worst racists in the country at this time. Most racist messages on this forum are posted by those who identity their lean as liberal or progressive, although not exclusively.

For example many self defined liberals and progressives foremost definite President Obama as "the black president," - that his foremost definition to THEM is his race. Therefore, since that is what is MOST important to them they assume is most important to everyone else. Therefore, those who oppose his actions and policies must be because of Obama's race - because they assume everyone shares their racial-measuring of people.
If it wasn't for Justice Thomas' race, he wouldn't have been appointed. At least not when he was. President Bush (the first) was under pressure to replace Thurgood Marshall with another black face. So he picked the most qualified black conservative judge. It's not a coincidence that he replaced Marshall.

To sum up Clarence Thomas, he has a very high self-approval rating, some of which has been earned and some not. He is an often careless jurist, one who falls under the sway of activists and allows his personal biases to color his legal thinking. He would be ranked by most in the bottom half of all USSC justices, but -- through no fault of his own -- he does stand out in being so consistently used as part of right-wing tokenism.

Huh? Thomas had 16 months experience as a judge at any level when he was nominated to the high court. He was indeed so much as considered only because he was black. There were many better qualified black judges who would have brought none of Thomas's heavy baggage to the table. But none of them was the lap-dog conservative that the right wanted to see installed in the place of Thurgood Marshall.

Race isn't an issue. I was surprised by this. My husband wasn't.

You mean there were many black lap dogs for Democrats to pick from.

OK, maybe there were other qualified black judges, but the point remains that he was largely a "quota" pick.

No doubt there were many qualified liberal black judges, but there really wasn't any chance that Bush was going to choose one of them. He got picked partially because they wanted to replace the black guy with another black guy. So they found a Conservative black guy.

Thanks for posting that, because now we know that it isn't racist to crticize Obama.
    Nobody said it was.
