British military canine 'in Afghan Taliban custody'

The Taliban say they captured a military dog from foreign forces operating in Afghanistan following a battle in the east of the country late last year.
The video shows the animal, whom the Taliban said is named "Colonel", being held on a leash in a small, well-lit courtyard surrounded by five men holding guns and grenades.

Hundreds of canines have been deployed by international forces in Afghanistan for tasks such as seeking out improvised explosive devices responsible for the vast majority of both military and civilian casualties in the war-torn country
Dogs are seen as unclean creatures by some Muslims and viewed with suspicion by the Taliban

British dog? It's clearly a German Shepherd.

Well, we are cornered now, that is for sure!

Did the Taliban ask only half of the wealth of USA in return for the kidnapped dog's well being? Or did they want the whole cake instead?

A Defense official confirms the dog was seized after a firefight in Laghman province with Taliban fighters. The official (dog) would not disclose details of the mission, but said it was not a night raid.

Strangely the Bangkok news link doesn't say anything about the American weapons the Taliban forces are displaying and showing in the background. from the BBC link on this same story -

The insurgents also showed off captured weapons of a type frequently used by American special forces. Link

Looks more like a Belgium Malinois to me. Very much the preferred breed of security/service agencies due to not suffering the health problems, of the GS.

I suppose the dog was the story, though the video does show weapons, i'm not capable of understanding what they are. Don't really recognize hand held weapons all that much.
