Calif. school apologizes for black history lunch menu[W:250]

Re: Calif. school apologizes for black history lunch menu

"Create an opportunity for black people to prepare meals...."

lol, you got to be kidding? Clearly he's speaking of cooking within the context of special meals for BHM.

<<<Create an opportunity for black people themselves to prepare meals and serve their holidays. >>>

There's nothing "clearly" about the post. It's in English, but just barely.

Re: Calif. school apologizes for black history lunch menu

I believe here in the South, BBQ transcends all racial boundaries. Everyone down here loves BBQ.

I agree. Just like most people (especially in the south) loves fried chicken.

Everyone in the north east who eats chicken loves fried chicken too.

Re: Calif. school apologizes for black history lunch menu

That's because darn near anything and everybody.....except black people... escaped being slaves and being thought of as less than human.

What you're doing is treated them as different, and inferior, people. By constantly placating, apologizing, justifying, coddling, and underestimating our fellow black Americans through the myriad of programs and lower standards requirements, we are collectively just perpetuating the stigma and challenges longer.

Until we truly treat them as equal, we are doing them a great disservice. And I'll argue all day that the Democrat party does this knowingly, intentionally, and with no sincere hope of actually helping them, but rather controlling them.

Democrats practice institutionalized racism with a reverse psychology against the black community.

all that from thinking that watermelon and fried chicken as a celebration of black history was a bad idea?

Re: Calif. school apologizes for black history lunch menu

Why do we have Black American History Month, Asian-Pacific American History Month, Jewish American Heritage Month? What's wrong with simply American History Month?

Yeah, that's it...

If they wanted a "black" cuisine day, there are plenty of options (as pointed out by apdst). A little more thought than a stereotype would actually be what you are talking about. Perpetuating a stereotype by saying "Well I can't think of anything black people like other than fried chicken" is holding them back also, and you're standing up for that. You're here defending that someone did some really lazy ass thinking and relied on a stereotype, and blaming it on Democrats.

Re: Calif. school apologizes for black history lunch menu

This whole thing demonstrates the real problem within it all. We spend so much time focusing on meaningless drivel, instead of the addressing the real hard stuff facing the black community today. These kinds of issues, which occur all the time, receive huge amounts of attention and "debate", while nobody really wants to talk about what's real. That's because what's real requires self-reflection and outside criticism, and that might chase away voters from that 95% bloc.

This whole thread is about nothing but a food stereotype. It's nothing. Mindless drivel to distract the black community from real issues. Liberals don't want anything to do with addressing the real issues. That's messy, and it might cause real internal debate. There's no internal debate in a 95% voting bloc.

Nobody is older than 50? Wow, I guess life expectancy is lower in the South.

Slavery ended 50 years ago? Wow! I've been reading all the wrong history books!

So we should let the stereotype go because you're having a hissy fit that they don't vote Republican.

Racism died with slavery?

I was talking about slavery and you know it.

You people will never let racism die, so it'll go on forever. However, we're talking about law and policy, not the ignorance of individual citizens. As far as a person's own racist ideas go, the best way to deal with it is to ignore it and move on. You won't force them to change their mind. The same applies to people who think serving fried chicken is racist.

"You people?" I guess it's OK if you say it to a libbo.

I wasn't talking about slavery, never did. So you equating it with slavery is dishonest, and you know it.

It doesn't bother you in the least that someone's bright idea of what black people like to eat was "fried chicken and watermelon." If they simply treated black contributions to cuisine as equal - exactly as you were pointing out - they would have come up with something much better. It's intellectually lazy at the very least, and we shouldn't allow intellectual laziness in the schools. I didn't post this because "OMG it's racist," I posted it because the utter stupidity struck me. You and the other con posters in this thread want to turn it into "slavery" or "well, they vote for Democrats," or "but, Obama!" Bull****. This was about the fact that some guy automatically thought of fried chicken and watermelon, and nobody else recognized the potential ****storm. Who the hell is running that place, because they are freaking idiots.

The stereotype that black folks like fried chicken? Well, it's true. What's the problem?

It's ok, if I say it to anybody...lol!! The faux outrage over, "you people", is just another example of manufactured racism.

I was...get a grip. Stop trying to be some kind of, "great white hope", for the black community.

It doesn't bother you in the least that someone's bright idea of what black people like to eat was "fried chicken and watermelon."

I recognize how goofy the idea is that fried chicken and watermelon are representative of black cuisine and have pointed out that much better examples of black cuisine could have been chosen. Mainly because I don't think fried chicken was necessarily invented by black folks. Black cuisine not to be mistaken with African cuisine of course.

I sure as hell didn't compare fried chicken to concentration camp food, like someone did.

That's exactly what you did. You were appalled at the idea of a Black History Month meal being served, to begin with. You're trying desperately to find racism where it doesn't exist.

You're right. They aren't about to let racism die. The people, black, white, Hispanic, etc., who profit from racism want to keep it alive and well. And those who serve as lapdogs to such people are easily led along to support that. Which is why I would bet a good steak dinner that intentional racism was behind the brouhaha stirred up over what should have been a fun and enjoyable cafeteria meal. Again all concerned could have recognized the intent to serve 'ethnic' food for an ethnic occasion and had a good time discussing that. The fact that some will not allow it to be that only illustrates how much some are determined to keep racism at the forefront.

Yup. Some even run fried chicken places. And I like fried chicken. A lot. I guess I'm black. Who knew?

This thread made me think of something: I'm starting to wondering if Libbos have a problem with black folks being black folks. The OP clearly expresses outrage at the idea of Black History Month meal, much less what was served.

Yeah, like Black folks don't eat fried chicken cornbread and watermelon???

I think having a "black history menu" is racist in the first place. Hell having a "black history" month is racist...

A lot of these progressives in the education institutions claim "race" (or any difference for that matter) shouldn't be an issue YET these dumbass fools make race and other differences that people have the focal point of every issue.... Progressives are obsessed with race, sex and sexuality....

I think liberals/progressives/statists/political class/leftist folks, as a group, are mostly worried that racism might not continue to be important. It is one of the biggest guns in their arsenal to silence, hurt, demonize, or terrorize the opposition. Given the sorry state of a too large percentage of the black people in this country, I have long known that they don't give a damn about black people other than for political advantage. In my opinion they are the largest blocks of racists remaining in this country and are determined to keep black people on the victims' list so they can continue to keep racism alive and well so they can capitalize on it.

Demonizing an ethnic lunch of fried chicken, corn bread, and watermelon is just one way they do that. Again, the way to handle that was to see an 'ethnic' lunch for an ethnic observance for what it was--an 'ethnic' lunch of favorite foods. That is the way it should have been seen, enjoyed, and appreciated. But no. The racists wouldn't have it. They had to associate it with slavery and racism. Otherwise there is too much danger of actually assimilating those black people into American society and allowing them to be 'as good as everybody else.'
