Calif. school apologizes for black history lunch menu[W:250]

I remember way back when I was in high school we had one day where we had a "soul food meal" for black history month and it all tasted like ****.... Black eyed peas (which taste like mud), weird parts of animals I would never eat like pigs feet and pig guts..... The only good part of the meal was the collard greens (which I actually love) and when the meal was over.

Yeah make kids eat that **** 5 days a week for a month....

Also, go to any black "soul food" joint today and they actually DO serve fried chicken and waffles, watermelon etc, not to mention the same meal aforementioned in my previous paragraph.

This thread made me think of something: I'm starting to wondering if Libbos have a problem with black folks being black folks. The OP clearly expresses outrage at the idea of Black History Month meal, much less what was served.

For sure, many of those who happened to be black have a different history than those who are English or Irish or German or Native American or of various Asian groups or of Hispanic heritage. And it should all be included in the history books, honestly and without exaggeration and without selective cherry picking for sociopolitical emphasis.

But we are all sharing the same history now and our different individual histories should be educational and interesting in introspective and we can have fun celebrating some of them. But those histories should carry no weight whatsoever in how people who live here and now are treated. Until we see skin color as of no more importance than hair color or eye color, racism will continue to be alive and well in this country. And until we can enjoy 'ethnic food' from black people's history just as we enjoy Italian food or Greek food or German food or Mexican food, all that have roots in past history, racism will continue to be alive and well in this country.

Re: Calif. school apologizes for black history lunch menu

That's got to be the funniest thing I've read in quite some time. Watermelon, corn bread, and fried chicken to celebrate black history! I wonder what nimrod thought that would be a good idea?

Fine, black folks are hereby banned from buying fried chicken, watermelon and cornbread. Because that would be racist if we sold those products to them. It be like giving Muslims pork if you ask some of these progressive educators.

What the **** is "black history food" anyways?

What the hell is European food? Latino Food, Dominican Food, Cuban Food? Chinese Food?

I don't see Asians get all bent when they get served chopped seuy.....And thats not even Chinese or even Asian.

Oh and I have been to PLENTY of black restaurants/BBQ's and they serve fried chicken, watermelon, cornbread - maybe some waffles, ribs and some good greens and it's all delicious..... WTF is wrong with people.

Were they bussed to school?

Yeah, like Black folks don't eat fried chicken cornbread and watermelon???

I think having a "black history menu" is racist in the first place. Hell having a "black history" month is racist...

A lot of these progressives in the education institutions claim "race" (or any difference for that matter) shouldn't be an issue YET these dumbass fools make race and other differences that people have the focal point of every issue.... Progressives are obsessed with race, sex and sexuality....

The reason we have a black history month is that the other eleven months are white history months.

That's not true at all - as a matter of fact it's a straight up lie.

Name one month of the year that is deemed "white history month" or "white European month" etc.... Can YOU? NO YOU CANT.

I find Black History Month to be racist.

I suppose we could call October "communist history month"

It is racist period

Well it is by definition... The notion that one race is superior than the other.

I find naming a month after blacks the federal government implying that blacks are superior than whites (or any race or culture for that reason).

There are a lot more races and nationalities that have contributed to the human race more than blacks..... "Black History Month" is more like "Black Culture Month" - furthermore what makes black culture any better than any other culture - especially when a lot of "black culture" has roots in other cultures that weren't even of African decent....

IMO, "American Indian or Native American" culture month would be a lot more educating than "Black History Month."

You know as well as I do that they aren't called white history months, but that's what they are. Our history books are decidedly biased in favor of white European history.

Absurd.

Absurd.

NO THEY ARE NOT CALLED WHITE HISTORY MONTH(S).......

There is only one month with a race in the name and its BLACK HISTORY MONTH...

Now keep on defending racism....

Furthermore how are whites celebrating "white history" the other 11 months of the year???

Furthermore define white???

What is a white person, what do they look like?

Because I can tell you right now that I'm 1/4th Swede, 1/4th Irish and half Sicilian but look 100% Sicilian (because I take after my 100% Sicilian father) and sometimes people often mistake me for Mexican due to the tint of my skin -- so am I "white?" or given the history of the Island of Sicily am I black, greek, moor, Arab etc because I'm sure one of those pirates/armies led to my skin tint....

So what is white exactly?

You interested in a debate or would you just like to make brash assumptions on what I allegedly should "damn well know"

Oh BTW, I'm only a 3rd generation US citizen on both sides of my family so I had NOTHING to do with slavery - my great grandparents got off the boat in the early 20th century.

Yep, which teaches an important reality based lesson in itself - to the victors go the spoils. The winner gets to write the history books. But hey, if we're going to separate races like this we really should call them white european history months.

Debate? You're just playing the race card. There's nothing to debate here. I'm more than willing to discuss the Eurocentric bias in our history textbooks and why that needs balancing out. But if you're just going to call me a racist for thinking other cultures deserve representation too, there's not really anything I care to talk to you about.

Do you think breast cancer awareness is sexist?

As far as I know they don't have a Breast Cancer Awareness month in our schools. Which begs the question, how about female history month?

Eurocentric???

Sorry if European inventions, innovation or capitalism is responsible for the civilized world, while black folks invented tinkertyoys, interesting food and dances they stole or infused from Hati or Dominican Islands...

Yeah Europeans only split the atom, cured "incurable" diseases, invented antibiotics and just about everything that makes modern society tick....

No you have no interest in debate except exploiting political correctness.

Black history month is racist.

We may as well have "Sentinelese" month next - don't worry they're black too.

Holy mackerel.

Maybe if every month were American history month, these people would have at least a small clue when it comes to American history.

No, come to think of it, they're clueless about a lot of things, not just history.

I didn't realize that all of these scientists only invented "tinkertoys."

Patricia Bath - Invented the Laserphaco Probe for the treatment of cataracts.
George Edward Alcorn, Jr. - Invented a method of fabricating an imaging X-ray spectrometer.
Henry Blair - Invented one of the first spark plugs.
Otis Boykin - Invented the control unit for pacemakers.
Phil Brooks - Invented the first disposable syringe.
Henry Brown - Invented fire resistant safes.
William P. Cardozo - Groundbreaking research in to sickle cell anemia, whose findings are still in use today.
Daniel Hale Williams - Performed the first successful open heart surgery in 1893.
Percy L. Julian - Developed the synthesis of cortisone, which is used to treat arthritis and other inflammatory diseases.
Frederick McKinley Jones - Developed refrigerated trucks, which greatly increased food delivery systems and reduced spoilage (still in use today).
Garrett Morgan - Inventor of the early gas masks.
James West - Developed the foil electret microphone, which became the industry standard. Approximately 90% of microphones in use today are based on this invention and almost all telephones utilize it, as well as tape recorders, camcorders, baby monitors and hearing aids.
Granville T. Woods - Invented a telegraph that allowed moving trains to communicate with other trains and train stations, thus improving railway efficiency and safety.
Jane C. Wright - Pioneered the use of the drug methotrexate to treat breast cancer and skin cancer.

So, does that put aside your moronic "tinkertoys and dance" theory, or do you still want to continue spouting racist nonsense?

Weren't the above inventors Americans?
Is their race the important factor, or their nationality?

I'm not saying that we need months dedicated to one group or another. I was simply pointing out that Mr. Nick is a racist with his "but, all black people do is sing, dance, cook, and give us tinkertoys" nonsense. And, in actuality, neither their race or nationality is important. Race doesn't determine ability to contribute to society, and arbitrary lines on a map don't determine it either. If someone is against Black History Month because it further perpetuates the idea that what makes us different is more important than what makes us the same, then I agree completely. But, to denigrate black people as little more than "tinkertoy inventors and dancers" is just racist crap.
