I'd like to know your target for the previous position so as to determine how to respond to this. It did not quite make sense to me.
You are perceptive. I am applying histrionics to the absudity of the melodramatics.

As to the target, the fact is, the syllabus in todays classrooms is far different than what it seems you are suggesting. Minorities, gender, and identity hardly recieve the short shrift you appear to be suggesting.

    Greetings, CJ.

Oh, we got the snow all right! I am becoming convinced that there is a "snow magnet" hidden somewhere in NE Ohio...either that or Mother Nature just loves Lake Erie, and visits as often as she can!

I had one business trip earlier this week, but I have been posting away the rest of the time. Maybe we've been on different threads, cause I've wondered where you were, too! This place is huge!

    My thought exactly. From Wikipedia:

Black History Month, also known as African-American History Month in America, is an annual observance in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom for remembrance of important people and events in the history of the African diaspora.
In that light, fried chicken and watermelon as a black history themed lunch sounds like more of a joke than anything (albeit not a very good one).

Somehow, we've constructed society in such a way that you can tease and stereotype darn near anything and everybody.....except black people. That is the most racist thing going in America.
That's because darn near anything and everybody.....except black people... escaped being slaves and being thought of as less than human.

Because we as a society are a branch and offshoot of European culture ... Also, the European academic tradition is probably more expansive and self-critical than any other perspective out there. Most others, if not all, fully indulge in a self-centric narrative

Just what is the country of the African Americans in the United States anyway? Unless they immigrated from Africa, they're Americans and have no other country in their heritage, or at least in their known heritage. That's why it wouldn't be offensive to serve a lunch of tamales and enchiladas on Cinco de Mayo, but really is offensive to serve up a stereotype on MLK day.
So soul food celebrates slavery, as opposed to the culture developed within the african american community? Also, I am lost on the idea of ethnic foods having to be tied to a national entity.

I think the perception of the meal would have been a lot different with just the absence of watermelon. There is just a **** ton of negative imagery associated with African Americans and watermelon. And while that is true to a certain degree with fried chicken, fried chicken is a legitimate part of soul food and doesn't carry the degree of negative association that watermelon has
