Sure, we'll go right along with how Europeans treated each other. And Africans. Not to mention the long mutual friendship between Japan and China.

Oh, I'm sorry, did I not absolve white people?

Besides, if we treated the history of the Native Americans with that kind of attention, we wouldn't have as much time to devote to the Hapsburgs.

Cool, we can do that. Frankly, survival of the fittest shouldn't require anyone to be absolved.

Wow, that's not racist at all!

Cultural sensitivity is not that hard.

How about dropping the whole "XYZ History Month" concept all together, and just get back to the concept of educating all?

Would such a thing be possible, or would the mere suggestion smack of Eurocentrism?
Eurocentrism would have more to do with world history courses than American history courses. Nevertheless, you'd still be surprised at how the narratives go in textbooks or in the classroom. It is not as if African Americans are a constant force of discussion in the classroom. Many times it's pretty paltry, showing up so you can "deal with that" one or two big topics during the semester: slavery, the civil rights movement.

I have heard of the connection. Those who are promoting racism for political and/or social gain won't let us not hear about it. They are absolutely determined to keep it in the forefront of the public consciousness. God forbid we should ever see black people as people and not some protected class. That would put the do-gooder racists out of business altogether. (Do-gooder in this case is what advantages those who promote racism for their own benefit.)

But me personally? No, I associate fried chicken with a wonderfully set table full of great aromas and good tasting things and something I and my guests, including black ones, enjoy a lot. I don't associate fried chicken with black people.

Actually that would probably be a good idea. Trouble is, a dramatic increase in the discussion of tribal geopolitics before the arrival of whites, or post-white arrival doesn't strike as a popular demand by United States Americans.

I beg to differ on the "not that hard" claim. Apparently food is a qualifier, which is absurd. Considering Concord, CA is in the culturally enlightened region known as the Bay Area, I'd suggest the results speak for themself.

As to classrooms, I might be reading the intent of your post wrong, but Blacks are certainly not getting paltry mention in the classroom. Consider the month long event that forms the basis of this thread.

That is hardly an indicator of what you seem to suggest is a passing discussion. Besides, why should Blacks be a constant discussion in the classroom?

After all of these years, you are telling me you did not know that fried chicken and watermelon were negative stereotypes thrown on to African Americans? It's either hard to believe or incredibly lazy thought being displayed here.

If you remove the month, the idea is that throughout the curriculum African Americans would find themselves present and accounted for in weekly discussion. I assure you this is often not the case.

For the same reason that white Americans or Native Americans, women, or anyone else should. They each were important to the history of the country. White males incredibly predominate the narrative, whereas a lot of everyone else do not. You do not just ignore everyone else.
