Death Sentence: 'Alarming' number of inmates dying in local US jails

I merely find things amusing, like someone pushing for a democratic socialist system of government "upset" by "government" killing people. That's like a PETA meeting being catered by a BBQ joint.

Anyhoots, I also followed up with statistics, reality. You video is just silly emotional drivel, there is no cover up of something foul going on. Jail sucks, don't commit crimes, don't end up in jail.

Jail sucks but to say that someone deserves to die for public drunkeness or running onto a baseball field, then you accuse socialists of being barbaric? :doh

I didn't say they deserve anything. However, life isn't a risk free endeavor son, **** happens.

You seem to be reading a lot into what was said.

Prison conditions have been deteriorating for years. It's a combination of the U.S. having too many laws on the books, penalties being too steep, and the transition to the for-profit prison system which places way less emphasis on rehabilitation. Private prisons are basically designed to encourage a higher recurrence rate because it's more profitable to them. Added to this, we now have an epidemic of plea bargaining where only a small fraction of accused people actually take their trials to court because the District Attorneys threaten them with huge prison time if they don't take deals.

The system needs reform badly, bottom to top. The punitive, for-profit model is not working. We need to return to an America that values freedom and involves less nanny government.

This. So much this.

Is this just more proof that police in this country are trying to cover something up? This is horrible and incredibly disgusting.

I guess I just don't have a lot of compassion for murderers, rapists and Pedophiles.....That is just me though. Go get them police officers.

I didn't say they deserve anything. However, life isn't a risk free endeavor son, **** happens.

And there's things we can do to minimize that risk to align more with justice, so that a nonviolent captive/prisoner isn't given a death sentence. Simply pointing out people die from other things isn't good enough.

I posted the stats on the prison deaths, it's a non-issue. The video in the OP makes a scary drama filled tear jerking sirens call to all "caring people".

I'm sorry, but yes it IS good enough. Society cannot waste the amount of resources required to drop prison deaths to less then 100 a month per year. **** more people die from hospital mistakes then that. More people die from drunk driving then that. More people die from old age then that. More people die from accidents a month then that.

It sounds like you're operating on the false assumption that all cases brought by prosecutors are true and accurate. That's not the case, and DNA methods have shown how frequently cases are wrong from the start.

There are many people sitting in prison who were framed and wrongfully convicted. The Central Park Five is a famous case of lousy prosecuting.

Yes, it's the biggest conspiracy theory since 9/11.

Probably personally anywhere when it comes to the USSR the years from 1917-1960's
when it comes to PRC (China) the years 49- the death of Mao
Eastern bloc especially DDR anytime i have a interest in the DDR
Im also a personal fan of Tito's history of Yugoslavia especially how he tried to integrate worker self management into the economy.

So your favorite time of the USSR is when Lenin was killing all political threats and then during the time Stalin killed 20 million of his own people.

And it didn't stop with them.

Still, there are those who feel that people need to be controlled, that personal freedoms are a very dangerous thing, even more dangerous than those millions of deaths you mentioned.

There is no US ministry of justice and 11,000 people dying in jail nationwide over the course of one decade is a very small number.

The rest is total BS

That is when i find it most interesting.
Whats your point?

liberty and "justice" for all.....

Were what?
I just told you where and when.

Now you're getting it! It seems that you're confusing capitalism with any number of other isms.

Socialism and communism is not the opposite of capitalism? Then what is the opposite of capitalism?

Thank you for making my point. That you don't see anything wrong of promoting Socialism/Communism and your fav. part of that history is during the mass murder that always comes out of that ideology.

One could say the exact same thing about capitalistic countries. Even are own such as slavery, genocide of native peoples, etc..

The difference is I recognize that fact but I don't say those are my points in history.

Are your points? What does it mean to have a "point" in history?

Both me an my entire family are activists for holding these prisons accountable for the deaths of people who are innocent until proven guilty (those held in county jails)...

Read this story - and this man isn't the first either.

Death of Lake County jail inmate Eugene Gruber ruled homicide - Chicago Tribune

^^ these guards broke this guys neck, thew him in a cell while he was screaming that he couldn't move. They called the "nurse" in several hours later and the nurse actually said "hes not paralyzed because if he was he would be ****ting and pissing on himself" and that was her only conclusion. A couple days later the man died because of neglect by the local county jail.

This is my county too.

In the end the family of Eugine Gruber sued and got a settlement of 1.75 million.

Of course the assholes who actually broke his neck got a slap on the wrist and the "nurse" was sent for more "training."

As far as I'm concerned they killed this man.

YEs but that is not what the thread is about.

The thread is about the number nation wide of people who die in jail over a decade, which is a very small umber in a statistical sense.

Of course if an inmate is killed in jail justice needs to be served, what is ignored here however is that every one dies and it is most often unpredictable when they will die. Another way of putting it is that someone is GOING to die in jail sooner or later it is simply inevitable. The vast majority of those who die in jail die of natural causes it is not a reflection on the jail or criminal justice system. It is simple fact whereever people live they will also die.

Yes, they did kill the man through neglect and, though without all the facts, it seems they should have been fired, as well as charged with a crime.

The moral of the story is that there are bad people everywhere, both inside and outside of jail. I'm grateful most of them are inside.
