Study: Liberals drink more alcohol than conservatives

Asobering new study published by the Journal of Wine Economics — yes, there is a Journal of Wine Economics — finds that alcohol consumption in American states rises as the population’s politics becomes more liberal.
The study by Pavel Yakovlev and Walter P. Guessford of Duquesne University in Pennsylvania shows a direct correlation between political beliefs and the demand for alcohol. The study compares sales of alcoholic beverages against the political leanings of a state's members of Congress, as ranked by liberal organizations Americans for Democratic Action (ADA) and the AFL-CIO Committee on Political Education (COPE).

I saw a study that said Conservatives are less likely to help little old ladies cross the street and more prone to borrowing their neighbors power tools and not return them.

I don't buy that one. Most conservatives I know would be more the source of power tools rather than the borrower;)..

and they are more likely to run with scissors,too.
 
I think its the Mormons, Pentecostals, Southern Baptists, and the various fundamentalists that drag down the alcohol consumption rate for conservatives. Similarly, those groups probably increase the closeted gay and sham marriage rate for conservatives, but that's another study.

A conservative will stay stocked up. A Libbos will run out and wait for someone to buy the beer for him.
 
I used to be a pretty heavy social drinker, but anymore I get so hungover its not worth it. A single glass of red wine most nights is about my limit these days.
 
I suspect both groups for different reasons as well with liberals being more apt to drink to have fun and conservatives more apt to try and drink away sadness.
 
I've yet to meet a hillbilly that doesn't have a gunrack up in the back window of his old truck with empty beer cans littering the bed...

Not the conservative drinkers I know, but that is anecdotal, because the majority of conservatives I know make less than $40K a year and it is all Obama's fault. And we all know that isn't the average conservative. I don't know many liberal liberals on a personal level, but I will take your word on it that all they want is free beer. I'm pretty much a middle of the road guy who has hard liquor & wine in the house for other people when they visit, but I only drink beer, and buy only as much as I am going to drink on any given day I choose to drink. However, I will admit my favorite beer is the one I don't pay for . . . I guess I'm a bleeding heart.
 
I don't know about the drinking but it is true that Liberals are more artistic than Conservatives. They create better art, Movies, music etc.

Yeah, when the logical thought portions of the brain are excessively damaged other portions take over. Makes for great artists and very damaged human beings.

Hey, it’s not liberal Hollywood’s fault that conservatives can’t do art. For some reason, conservative attempts at pop culture simply don’t pan out for the most part.
