The US National Security Agency has gone to staggering lengths to hoard the private data of millions of people. But all that effort seems to have been in vain. An independent study now suggests that information has simply failed to produce actionable results in averting terrorist attacks. Now we have two reports claiming that the NSA does pretty much nothing to stop attacks one from the White House and an independent study. Can we please just get rid of these programs already?

Government giving up power? Good luck with that.

If we stood united we could accomplish anything, and that is exactly what they fear most. Stand together and take it back.

Gov is the problem.

The left, right, center, etc need to realize the progressive movement transcends party lines, it isn't a left or right thing....this is what they want. Division in the ranks. Divide and conquer.

Sure, we are different on money, social issues, police, guns, whatever.....but at the end of the day, these are issues we can deal with later. Now, we are faced with a MUCH bigger issue. They ensure their success by making sure we go after each other concerning the issues I stated previously. It's brilliant actually. Straight out of Sun Tzu. How we don't see it is beyond me.

We are numbers to them. Votes. Nothing more. Again...left right center sideways green purple...they don't care. We are nothing but a number. The man above me is a liberal...now, I don't agree with their fiscal, big gov, or constitutional ideologies (well all but one), but I'll stand with this guy on this issue all day.

We are being duped. We are fighting each other, and we, my friends, are the suckers. Joke is on us.

Yeah, in the real world they will demand something in exchange. What are you wiling to give them?

NSA...Nuerotic Sociopathic Agency

Their motto should be 'Next to drone strikes and Gitmo...we are al Qaeda's best recruiting tool'.

I'm not surprised by this outcome. During the testimony, examples were given. The question was never asked as to whether those activities could have been thwarted through alternative means. IMO, the lack of examination of how threats might have been resolved under alternative approaches suggested that the arguments being made in favor of the surveillance were weak, if not superficial. If they weren't, one would have heard how such threats could not have been addressed in any other known approach, along with evidence to make that case.

I suspect that the surveillance modestly facilitated counterterrorism activities. However, I'm not convinced that the benefits (modest contribution to counterterrorism) exceeded the costs (reduced privacy, international concerns from allies that were subjected to such surveillance, eroded trust among allies, etc.).

The NSA is implanting devices in Xbox type equipment and plug in storage devices and radios.

The intelligence agencies failed to prevent the Boston Marathon bombing despite several warnings about the Tsarnaev brothers coming in from Russia. The agencies were too busy spying on Americans to take heed.

YOU elected?

You presume too much; you have no idea who I did or didn't vote for. I don't support the Democrats, and never have. Furthermore, the government and the excessive power it wields is much bigger than the president.

So, by that, are you saying that you're not a Leftist Liberal, but rather a Liberal in the classic sense?

Not everybody on the left votes for and supports the Democrats.

The agency failed to stop the bombing b'cause they planned and executed it to strengthen Americans resolve to have their liberties spied and taken. Before you disregard my statement, take a moment to watch the video taken from a 2ND storey window on the same side as the explosion and watch all the actors scurry into action by pouring fake blood on themselves. Be responsible and wakeup and do some homework; otherwise, every thought will always be the wrong thought.

With his usual wit, Colbert treated this issue last week.

Only a completely irrational society, or a completely corrupted government, would allow such programs to continue after their failure has been documented.
