A Blackhawk helicopter that crashed in southern Afghanistan last month
killing six U.S. soldiers, was brought down by an enemy explosion, not gunfire or mechanical failure, U.S. military officials said Thursday. The UH-60 helicopter crashed in the Shahjoi district of Afghanistan's Zabul province on Dec. 17.
Initial reports indicated it came under heavy enemy gunfire once it was on the ground, but later reports contradicted that, implying there was no enemy contact.

On Thursday, U.S. military officials told NBC News the helicopter was in a low-hover position when a blast from the ground below caused it to crash. The helicopter was not shot down by enemy fire, and apparently no enemy forces were on the ground in the vicinity either before or after the fatal crash
not sure if I get this, no enemy fire, no troops. but an enemy explosion? what kind of explosion?

We have given them enough time. If they don't want or cannot handle democracy it is up to the UN to help or let them sink . It must, however, be made totally clear that collateral damage will not be an issue, if they allow terror to be planned, organized or initiated from their soil and that the UN will be informed but not necessarily consulted.

Two days ago:

Two officials say it's possible the low-flying helicopter set off an improved explosive device on the ground. If that is the case, it could pose new challenges for U.S. helicopter operations in the war zone, the officials said. They all declined to be identified because of the sensitive nature of the information...

The assessment is based on a variety of evidence collected. The crew of another helicopter flying nearby reported seeing a flash but did not see enemy forces on the ground at the time. One surviving crew member has also been interviewed. And investigators have also closely analyzed debris on the ground and damage to the aircraft.

5 of the 6 are part of my unit.

not sure of your reference, but ny criticism of the war, is not a criticism of the ISAF forces there.
I'm merely saying 5 of the 6 killed are part of my unit, meaning I worked with them, they were stationed here and we just had their memorial. This post just made me think of them.

deepest condolences for their loss.

Sorry this happened. Do you know anything about the crash?
Not very much, they aren't saying a lot, since the investigation is still going on, but last I heard it was a mechanical issue, not enemy fire, or an IED.

Hmmm, the CNN story claims Taliban responsibility. The Black Hawk has survivability feature built into it.

they are dead because of being in afg. an enemy explosion. Blackhawk (Pave -modified)went down the other day off England, and I think in the US.

I don't know what to think here
