Satanists Unveil 7-Foot Baphomet Statue For Oklahoma State Capitol

The Church of Satan seems like a bunch of wacked out hedonists who like to grow goatees. They're mostly atheists who have decided that their ego is their moral standard (surprise!). I was looking at their web site and they're definitely not for this display. It makes you wonder why they've decided to call themselves the "Church of Satan". They seem to be into roleplay and are probably a bunch of LARPers composed of older HS goth kids.

The theistic satanists are what most people think of when they hear "satanist". They were the ones shouting "Hail Satan" at a pro-life rally a few months ago. Much more interesting than the wacked-out atheists in my opinion. I wonder if they get into fights with the Church of Satan.

They're not the real Satanists.

The NYC satanic temple is sponsoring it, and they're theistic satanists, i. e. they worship something called the "devil." The official Church of Satan (LaVeyan Satanists) does not sanction it.

WRONG. The Church of Satan doesn't mandate any specific clothing style or fashion--Sin #9 only requires aesthetic sensibility and some effort to be made in dressing up--that's it.

If the CofS got into a fight, it would be a sin according to the CofS rules #2 and #8 in the 11 Satanic Rules. See link above.

I'll be sure to study all the rules of the Church of Satan...

They should also get with the program and sell some merchandise on their web site like the Satanic temple people do. It could help them pay for their halloween costumes or buying binges at Hot Topic. I especially like the Satanic coffee mug. Spooky. oooh.

I'm getting sick of people doing **** out of hate, defiance, just to make a point or "just because I can."

It's their right I suppose, but this is just unreasonable.

IMO, religious based community monuments should be voted on via direct democracy. Let the general public of that community decide what they want to see everyday on their dive home from work or whatever...

Wonderful. I understand the whole discrimination argument. But where does this end. Eventually, will tax payers be put upon for more space and facilities, maintenance etc. how about a none policy and the satanists can put the statue in their front yards. It is a cool one.

Or, what most people want, the taxpayers will say enough is enough and they will eliminate *ALL* religious displays on public property. That's what we're shooting for, by making it absurdly difficult to deny anyone equal rights, the only way everyone can be equal is by denying all displays.

True, but it shouldn't be. Satan on the other hand is worshiped. Strange all the fictitious beings mankind finds to worship.

Actually, most Satanists, at least LaVeyan Satanists, don't believe in Satan, any more than people who claim to be Pastafarians really believe in the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

This post seems to be all bark and no bite.

That's because, unlike blood-sucking luciferians...I don't bite. But yeah, statement stands. Find someone smarter than this collective and multiply their I.Q by 100 and maybe an interest will be taken. Until that time, talk amongst yourselves.

Every word after the first word demonstrates that you do not know the meaning of the first word.
You have understood nothing and that is sad.
I think some nice rose bushes would be nice. No need to clutter it up government buildings with stupid signs made up by a christian, whose understanding of the 1st amendment is so dubious.
what belief and moral system? atheists have many belief and moral systems, to which one are you referring?

The member I was responding to.

All non-religious ideology and slogans should all be removed. For example, "the truth shall set you free" is a belief that many people do not share. Therefore such a slogan should be banned as outrageously unconstitutional. Having such a slogan it is the government horrifically forcing people to accept a belief they don't have.

It is unthinkable and grotesquely illegal, oppressive and unconstitutional to allow the Statute of Liberty to remain on government property with government paid staff on government owned land.

The statue is of a robed female figure representing Libertas, the Roman goddess of freedom, who bears a torch and a tabula ansata (a tablet evoking the law) upon which is inscribed the date of the American Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1776. That writing of the declaration of independent declares that humans were created by a god and that equality comes from that god, not rule of law. Only fanatical religious zealots trying to use religion to imprison people oppose tearing it down.

RabidAlpaca and others above can explain why and how terribly much Lady Liberty oppresses and harms them in unbearable and discriminatory ways.

I think the reason liberals come off so badly when discussing these issues is that not one of them ever starts a thought with "I realize this countries very existence is due directly to the labors of strict christian believers, not to mention it's laws, core beliefs and value system that made it the greatest nation the WORLD HAS EVER SEEN, but....." they might sound slightly more intelligent than basically comparing christianity to stage 4 cancer.

but that's just me.

Ever heard of the KGB in Russia?

Yes, but seeing as how that it wasn't a religious organization trying to put up religious statues on government property, it doesn't have anything to do with the conversation. Thanks for stopping by.

LOL

"This is 'Merica god dammit! We're a christian country! If you don't like it you can get the **** out!"

Sorry, but our government was not founded as a religious one, you don't not have special rights as a christian, and you don't get to use taxpayer funding to further your religious goals. Boo hoo.

You're continuing to misspell America discredits your messages and raging at yourself is bizarre.

There has been a change in the format of what would be allowed on the Oklahoma Capital grounds:

Sallisaw legislator pushes bill to allow more Ten Commandments monuments - Tulsa World: Homepagelatest

The bill filed this week by Sallisaw Republican Rep. John Bennett would authorize schools, cities and counties to display monuments or memorials dedicated to “historical documents.” The bill specifically references the Ten Commandments, the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights and the Magna Carta, among others.

Dose anyone here want to bet that that someone will not try to have a monument devoted to The Law of Thelma?

While I doubt that they have any real interest in building a monument, I wouldn't say that they're doing it to piss people off. My guess is that they're trying to provide perspective.

Christians make up something like 90% of the US Population. Many of them feel that Christian Iconography belongs in public buildings. They don't understand what something like the ten commandments on a courthouse says to someone who isn't a Christian.

It makes an obvious point. Religious symbols have no place in public life.

Non Christians don't understand the significance of the Ten Commandments in the history of Western civilization? I think they do though given the teaching standards of today that's not a sure bet.. I also believe this is a fashion for those who are recently cause free to create one. To me, Christian or not, it is small minded, petty little people at the forefront of these debates.

So you're going for the "This is 'Merica god dammit! We're a christian country! If you don't like it you can get the **** out!" direction.

If you are going to quote me please quote me correctly. I've got no time for people who invent conversations or quotes.

  • Adding 'in god we trust' to money in the 1860s.
  • Adding 'under god' to the pledge in the 1950s.
  • Making the national motto 'in god we trust' instead of E Pluribus Unum.
  • Many states have/had anti atheist laws or constitutions. Arkansas, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas.
  • Justice Scalia (2005):

Interesting that he throws the words devout and atheist together. He demonstrates his probable belief that atheism is just another religion.

    To quote Bill Maher:
To which i will add. Atheism is a religion as much as theism is a religion.
  • South Carolina Democrats back bill calling for mandatory daily prayers in public schools | The Raw Story
Muslims a re required to pray several times in a school day...hmmm. Yeah just pull out a prayer mat in the middle of class, that will fly.
  • adding 'so help me god' to the army enlisted oath in 1962.
  • officers required to say 'so help me god' since 1776.
  • the GAT of CSF which lead to mandatory counseling for 'low spirituality'
  • George Bush Sr (1987)

    in response to this question:
  • according to some polls atheists are the least trusted group in the US.

and while doing all that you let the IRS determine what qualifies as a religion, which is truly a bizarre thing.

Yes, I can see how they did everything they could to make your life a living Hell.

I never met a satanist who wasn't a total attention seeking *****

How are they going to prove the 10 commandments are historical? The only evidence of the existence for the commandments comes religious books. The other cited documents exist.
Loop hole creation fail.

Atheists are the least trusted group in America. Even gay people are more trusted.
They are vilified, marginalized even hated.
One does tend to get tired of the treatment.
Only since the internet can atheists find each other without the exposure to ridicule. We are finding there are more of us out there than thought possible.
